    Cool Diabetic's Vbac

    Hi Girls,

Just wondering if anyone has successfully had a vbac having gestational diabetes or diabetes prior to conception?
I had an emergency c section with my son in 2008 due to his blood sugar dropping to low. I am wanting to have a vbac with my second child
but now have type 2 diabetes not just gestational!!! I have heard so many discouraging stories of doctors not letting diabetics vbac & am very unsure of my chances of find a doctor who'll let me. I am also wanting to have a home birth! Just wanting any feedback neg/positive to help me in my descion.
Or am i pushing my luck? I dont want to be pushed into a c section i want to make up my own descions!
    TIA

I had a vbac, but I only because I went into labour on my own at 35 weeks and my waters broke at 37 after being on nifedipine to stop the contractions. I was booked in to have another c sect at 38 weeks. I was on insulin for a few weeks but then managed the gd with my diet. The last scan showed dd to be large but she was only 3.25kgs, she had to be admitted to the scn because I had insulin but her levels were fine.

My ob would not do any form of induction as I fell pregnant before 12 months and he was worried about the scar. Good luck, hope you can get your vbac.

I had GD with my last baby and she was a vbac. I was induced at 39 weeks but was attached to multiple drips so movement was limited. I wouldn't try for a home birth if you have diabetes as you need more monitoring but you could ask for a birth centre birth. The worst that could happen is they say no. Good luck hun

Hubby and I are trying to research the issue of diabetics and VBACs. What are the major risks? Is it primarily macrosomia - which could possibly be managed through active birth, upright positions, and glucose levels - which could also be managed by immediate breastfeeding/colostrum? We're getting lost trying to under the issues for mothers and babies.
