Sharp stabbing pain deep in vagina/cervix (33 weeks)

So I'm 33.5 weeks along and suffer from an array of pregnancy related aches and pain (including back, pelvis, aching groin and sciatica) but the past few days I'm experiencing horrible sharp stabbing pains deep inside my vagina, like a knife or electric shock to the cervix ITMS. I had one so bad yesterday it completely stopped me in my tracks and scared the hell out of me and DH! The pain was unbelievable!

Anyone have any idea what it could be? Is it possibly sciatica related?

Is he engaged yet? I got nasty stabbing pains like someone was skewering me up the middle when they were moving down.

I had it with DS. I assumed it was his head or a hand as it wasn't constant.

Arte - it was breech 2.5 weeks ago but I've had some seriously weird and quite uncomfortable pains since then so it's possible it's turned. I do feel like I have a head between me legs too (so swollen!) but I wouldn't have guessed it to be breech at my last OB appt so I think my judgement sucks

Helle - I've had the tickling but annoying sensation on my cervix which I've assumed is either feet or hands (gross!) but this is really different. It's really sharp and not really constant, just a big BAM of sharp stabbing pain, usually without warning. Ouchies!

I get this, my Ob said it is headbutting (or some other part) of the cervix. Not a very fun feeling, sends the electric shock thing right through your body, I've yelped a few times because it definitely catches you off guard! I'm 32w and bub has been head down for a while, DD was the same and had the same fun feelings... my bubs seem to prepare early (DD arrived at 38w though on the dot).

I had this with DS1 - was told by doc that it was the little fella getting comfy and making his way down.

    It'll be either a head or a foot/bum.

Fingers crossed its the babe's head getting nestled down into position.

I got the same thing with both DD's. Its not a pleasant feeling, i know!

Ouch yes you are bringing back memories. That pain used to take my breath away! It's normal apparently. I was told by my Ob it's bubs head. Not nice at all.

Yeah have had this too, I figured it was just the head pressing down onto a nerve. I also find it tends to ease off if she moves. It can really take your breath away like anything though if in doubt get checked out

Thanks girls, glad to hear it's normal and good ol' 'positive pain'

I'm feeling quite hopeful after reading your replies that our little Nasi has turned and is head down. Either that or it's destined to join River Dance and is practicing on my cervix!

I have an OB appt on Wed so I'll find out the position then and will also run it by my OB but it all sounds very normal. Thanks again girls!

Well I had my OB appt and 'Nasi' is head down! My OB was actually thrilled with how we are going and said bubs is in prime position and there is a good chance this will be a more decent sized baby as I'm still measuring ahead of dates - 3 weeks ahead!

He said the pain in the cervix is actually really good news as it means my body is doing what it should be and my cervix is prepping for the birth. All in all, I'm feeling pretty stoked right now
