    e-mail job application

Quick question If you send a job application by email, do you include the cover letter as an attachment, or do you put the body of the cover letter as your email and just attach your CV?

I used to write my email as the cover letter then attach the CV

I did it as a separate attachment. Most job sites like career one and seek do it they way. Also some of the bigger health services as well.

That's interesting. I got a few jobs (a while ago now) having my cover letter as the actual email, but I guess everyone does their own thing. So maybe there's no right or wrong? Hmm.

hmm this just further confuses me then. I'm leaning towards attaching the cover letter to the email, I guess as long as that is not wrong then that'll be ok

You could do a little introductory letter as your email.

    Dear employer,

My name is traveller and I wish to apply for the position of ........ As advertised in ........

Please find attached my curriculum vitea and a cover letter outlining my skills and experience.

I can be contacted on ............. Between he hours of...........

As someone who had to read a stack of email applications for work, I always appreciated a detailed cover letter as the email with the cv attached. We could get over 100 applications (retail) and to be able to scan through without having to open every attachment saved a lot of time.

Is it through a website or a job ad that has listed an email as a contact?

I got an email inviting me to apply for the job, with the details included as an email and not an attachment. Maybe I should take that as my guide then and do the same with just the CV and academic transcript as an attachment? The job is just a few hours as week as a learning leader on the peer student study support program. But it's the first job of any sort that I have applied for in years and I am so out of touch!

I re-read the email and it stipulated that the cover letter should be no more than one page long, so I took that an an indication it should be attached to the email and sent the application off as you suggested above. Thanks everyone for your help, and wish me luck
