    Question GHD vs Cloud Nine

My cheapie hair straightener is just not cutting it so for Christmas I'm hoping for a good hair straightener. Initially I was looking at a GHD but then came across the Cloud Nine which seems to be promoted as the 'new ghd', so I'm now confused.

I asked my new hairdresser but she turned out to be GHD stockings, so I don't think I got an unbiased view From what I read, the main difference with the Cloud Nine is the variable temperature, but the one I currently have (granted a cheapie) I always need to use at the highest setting anyway, so is this really something to be sold on?

On a side issue, what heat protective treatments are good when using hair straighteners?

I got told that the Cloud nine's are made by the original GHD owners....

I was also told that cloud nines are better if you don't want such a dead straight look like the GHD will give (I assume this is to do with adjustable temp)
I love my GHD but will get a cloud nine next time

I was googling this just the other day... From what I read, Cloud Nines seem to be the new favourite, BUT there are lovers in both camps. I guess you need to work out what you want from a straightener (What looks you want to achieve) and see which one is marketed to be able to do the things you ask.

I've heard great things about the Cloud Nine & will be getting one in the near future. I think they have stopped supplying Australia though, so I think you would have to order one from OS. There is a great review at a blog called Love.Shop.Share if you want to check it out

My hairdresser does not recommend GHD hair straighteners due to not being able to set your own temperature.
She considers GHD to be too 'hot' for the average persons hair- which can cause damage.

    ghd all the way baby.

Kerastase Nectar Thermique (leave in conditioner/protectant) and Ciment Thermique (heat protectant) are amazing - a little exxy but you only need a tiny bit and they last ages.

Tresemme also do a good one in a spray bottle.

Cloud 9 are made by the original 'inventors' of GHD I upgraded to my 9's on the recommendation of my hair dresser this year. GHDs are still fab but Cloud 9's just have a few more features and better technology. You can definitely achieve more styles due to the adjustable heat seatings. I highly recommend them purely on the basis that they are just the next step up from GHDs

Thanks for all your replies. It seems most with a ghd will, or would change over.

I've googled a few reviews but I'll check out that one you suggested Enchanted. And thank you for the product recommendations buffy1. I think I've been leaning to the cloud nine but just wasn't sure, but there seems to be a lot of confidence and like for it here.

I have a cloud 9 and my hair has never been in better condition. Its made by GHD. It is better for your hair as it has the temp that is adjustable so you don't do as much damage.

I might have just found my Christmas present from DH!! I love my GHDs but the Cloud 9s sound great - especially seeing as DD1 is starting to ask me to curl her hair with my GHDs and I really don't like that level of heat on her delicate hair.

Are they as expensive or more than the GHDs??

LuLu - I paid $300 which is what I paid for my GHDs several years ago

I have a Cloud Nine and I love it. The variable heat works wonders, you start off with the highest heat the first time you straighten and then drop the temp for touch-ups.

I have wavy (getting more curly as it grows) hair and I get dead straight hair with my Cloud Nine.

Great to hear Sopdet. I have thick wavy hair and I'd love to have dead straight hair. It just feels more manageable.

Thanks for all the feedback. DH has now been advised a Cloud Nine would be a great Christmas present

I ADORE my GHD i dont think i could live without it! But that said ive had it for nearly 3 years and its starting to die on me! It doesn't take its usual what 3 or 6 secs to heat up anymore and i spend about 20 mins straightening when it used to take me only 10 mins! So i'm looking for a new straightener and Cloud Nine definitely sounds like the better option.

I vote 1 for cloud 9 too, it does a good job and the price is fairly good
