While on the phone to Health Direct today about DD's sudden fever, the nurse recommended I give her warm apple juice to 'soothe' her throat and help clear out the mucus she keeps coughing up.
I have googled this and it is a remedy for colds. I had never heard of it though! She's 17 months and never drunk juice in her life. Has anyone tried this before?
My mum used to give us warm juice when we had a cough, and I have always done it for my kids too. It's quite soothing, and also a great way to encourage fluids during a cold when lots of fluids are being lots through coughing mucous and sweating with fever.
I haven't heard of it either, but can imagine how it would be quite soothing. Personally, I would water the juice down for your DD though - it's a lot of sugar for her to take in in one hit if she's not used to it.
Interestingly the Dr I ended up taking DD to yesterday said she wouldn't recommend it!
I did try a 50:50 mix of juice and water to disguise her antibiotics, and she wouldn't have a sip of it. Sigh. Poor bubba has pharyngitis Having to force her to take her antibiotics (5mls) four times a day for 10 days!!
why did the dr not recommend it?
i havent heard it but i guess it isnt a dfar cry from lemon and honey. i make that for DS1 (who is 4) when he is sick.
i would water down the apple juice.
