DH and I have been looking at prams and have decided we "think" the Strider is the one for us (well we are tossing up between that and the Valco Rebel Q but I'm going to start another thread on that ). We are looking at second hand Striders because, through our research we've discovered we actually have very little idea about what we need/want in a pram and we if we can buy what we "think" we want/need at good secondhand price then it means if we hate it we can justify buying exactly what we want (and knowing it is actually what we want) after the baby is here brand new. Does that even make sense?
Anyhoo, my question is in regards to the Strider DLX. A lot of Striders on the secondhand market that I've seen are DLX. What is the difference between a DLX and a Plus? Our main reason for wanting to know this is if the handle on the Strider Plus is the same on the DLX as DH is 6' 7" and I am just over 5 foot and of all the prams we looked at we really liked the handle that bent to adjust the height rather than the telescopic handle. It just felt right for both of us (nothing else did LOL). So in addition to any other differences, what is the handle on the DLX like?
Sounds petty I know but we are still entertaining the idea of just buying brand new anyway but there is so much baby stuff out there we don't want to go overboard. We saw one in blue on sale for $463 as they are phasing out the colour and I lurrrvvveeddd it even though DH said "blue is for boys, what if it is a girl." I think it was a gorgeous blue and fine for either. I'm trying to be sensible though...you shouldn't just buy a pram because it is a pretty colour .... or should you?????? LOL.
For those that have Striders, does anyone have a Ford Focus sedan or similar and how does it fit? We live almost 500kms from Perth and drive DH's car on the long trips so haven't had my car down there to test it out. I'm worried that even though the Focus has a pretty large boot it won't fit but in all honesty I'm worried that no pram will fit. I'm surprised at how big they actually are even when collapsed. I wish they were all more compact and easier to collapse .
Thanks in advance for your help, it is much appreciated!
i dunno about the DLX but we have the strider the blue is nice but we have black in regards to folding down the pram its pretty big but it does go into frame and seat and will fit that way and if u have another baby it can take a extra seat at the bottom that can go all the way down i put the baby in the bottom seat when she was small and the swapped when DS got bug enough to climb in himself
I used the strider DLX for DS's stroller/capsule and it had its pro's and con's.
It is big, we had a Holden astra at the time and we couldn't fit much more in the boot other than the stroller, plus we had to take the wheels off (which was easy enough to do but still a pain in the butt sometimes).
It's also quite heavy but feels very sturdy, well made and good quality.
The infant car seat capsule was great for DS for the first 6 months. He could be transferred without waking.
The handle doesn't bend but it has different lengths so you can adjust depending on the height of the person pushing the pram.
There is a bassinet attachment which we found useful when we were taking DS with us to people's houses or out when we knew he would be sleeping in the evenings.
The stroller part has 3 reclining settings which is great if your baby wants to sleep. All the attachments can face forward or backwards which I liked.
We were glad we got it, it did the job and we probably got a good year's use out of it. Then we bought a cheaper upright stroller for DS at around 1 year old when he started walking.
The only problem is now that we are having #2 we would have preferred to get a pram with a toddler attachment. Unfortunately this one doesn't have that option, so we're going to sell the strider we have and look for a double pram. But if the strider had a toddler attachment I would be keeping it for sure!
So if you're thinking about having #2 close in age to #1 (which I know always isn't a choice but you never know!!) then go with something that has the option for a toddler seat attachment.
The difference between the DLX and the plus, is that the plus can take a toddler seat at the bottom. The handle on the strider isn't telescopic but it can be moved up or down, similar to a mountain buggy handle (iykwim!). There is a slight difference in the basket size, but other than that, I don't think there is much different.
Good luck - I found pram shopping the hardest decision to make (oh and we have the blue strider and it is pretty lol!)
I LOVE my strider plus - my DH is 6' 7" and he has no issues with the handle.
we have a wagon but I know people who have the strider in little cars... you can remove both seats and fold the frame down and put the 2 seats on top - save a bit of room.
We bought the Kingfisher Blue Strider Plus (They've discontinued that colour, odd as it's super popular, we bought the last brand new one in SE QLD) a few months ago knowing we were having a girl, such a nice colour, I think it suits both genders, looks nice with all the pink stuff too
We love our Strider Plus, still haven't tried DS in the toddler seat as DD is only 3 weeks old so I still have DH home with me to handle DS when we go to the shops hehe..
I wish I had've bought the Strider Plus with DS as we had a single pram which I love and was perfect for just him but didn't take a second seat which we needed with the 2 year gap between them.
I don't know much about your boot size but I have a Mazda 6 and its fits in my boot no problem with a fair bit of space left over.
