    So damn exhausted!

I'm pretty lucky so far, I have no morning sickness to speak of (touch wood) so I feel like I really shouldn't complain when so many women feel so ill when they are pregnant. But I am so exhausted and I don't know how to try and combat it. I started back working full time after a few months off around the time I conceived, so it's entirely likely that just being back working fulltime is contibuting aswell. I've thought about napping when I get home from work, but then I'm worried I'll sleep too long and will end up having trouble getting back to sleep later. I've also thought about just going to bed as soon as I get home from work, but then I worry about skipping dinner.

I know it seems like a silly thing to complain about, but I am struggling to go to work every day. Were it not for DF dropping me off on his way to work and dragging me out of bed every morning, I would likely be calling in sick.

Any suggestions to beat this exhaustion? Or is it one of those things I just have to wait out?

Nap is a good idea but only let yourself have 30mins max. can dh wake you after half hr and kick you til you get up? (what my dh has to do)
what about a stroll around the block? sounds crazy i know but exercise can beat exhaustion too, even if it is a stroll and only a k or so might work to perk you up a bit instead of the nap?
go easy on yourself, growing that little bundle is hard work!

    Don't fight it, sleep!

Your whole body is busy building at the moment. Building a placenta, increasing blood volume, laying down all the foundations for the next 9 months and beyond, let alone beginning to build your little one. I was astounded at how tired I felt in the first months of my pregnancies, and like you, I would want to nap when I got home from work too (as a matter of fact, I took naps at work sometimes!). I think of it as similar to having the flu. Your whole body is immobilised as it fights the illness and that knocks you out, you need to sleep to allow your body to do the work. This time, rather than fighting a flu virus, your whole body has a more important job to do and you should do whatever works to let it. Therefore, sleep, sleep, sleep!

FWIW, I found that napping when I got home from work did not ruin my nights sleep as it would have done normally. I would nap till dinner, eat then go back to bed. I just needed all the extra sleep time I could get. Hopefully that will work for you too, give it a go!

Thanks ladies. I caved yesterday and while DF cooked dinner, I decided to lay on the couch and have a nap. Was apparently out for about 40 min and I felt so much better. No problems getting to sleep last night either. And I feel much better today. Still really tired, but I'm not falling asleep at my desk.

Now I feel kinda silly worrying about having a nap when clearly my body has been screaming at me to have one. Pretty sure a nap before dinner is going to be a regular thing now

definitely keep the naps up! that's exactly what i did when i was PG with DS & working full time. every day i would come home from work, go straight to bed for an hour & then get up & have dinner. i would still be in bed by 10ish i think & had no trouble sleeping overnight! i think by the time i was about 13 weeks i didn't feel the need to nap after work anymore (well, not as much). afternoon naps on weekends/days off are great too!

Miss_Dee you sound so much like me! Although DH is also away for work so no one to make dinner for me:-(

The only way I've been able to cope is make sure I can eat dinner as soon as I get home whether it means picking up takeaway or quickly reheating leftovers. That seems to revive me just enough to spend 30min on bb or watching tv to relax before I crash.

But seriously, do whatever works for you. Nap away!
