I thought I would note down what we bought for our DD and what I thought of it - I know a lot of people think in hindsight I wish I didn't buy this and wish I didn't buy that, so here is a quick overview of what we had:
Before DD born (and we didn't know the gender):
Boori Newport Cot (soft white) & Boori Latex mattress - couldn't be happier with this purchase, was great when we used as a bassinet and is still great now when we lowered the cot, we had DD doing day sleeps in this from about 2 weeks Boori four draw chest of draws, we then just bought a change mat to put on top - Again, love the practicality of this, I didn't need a special change table per say, I use the top draw for her nappies etc and the bottom three draws for her clothes, wraps etc. We can then use this as her draws for when she gets older and being in the soft white would go with anything... I love the colour of our furniture as it is neutral and light and totally transportable through ages. Tommee Tippee Breast pump - I used this non stop for eight weeks and boy I am glad I got this before we had DD, was good to hit the ground running when we got home and didn't need the headache to get one, we love the TT bottles too so it was perfect for us, although I couldn't BB past eight weeks I expressed every 3-4 hours for the first 8 weeks so got plenty of use out of it, it's all packed away for bub no. 2. Needless to say we use the bottles to FF Baby Bjorn Comfort Carrier - we used this so much early on and 10 months down the track I am still using it, its a good one for when they get older, DD is in th 97th percentile and we are still going strong! Emmalungja Nitro City white leatherette - LOVE LOVE LOVE this pram... We used the bassinet for 4 months for night sleeps, we just wheeled the pram in and out so her bed was portal. I own my own business and was back at work after 5 weeks so she was up there and back a lot, and having her pram as her main bed was a godsend for settling, plus we saved on buying a separate basinette - I would do the same again!! The white leatherette is stylish and easy to clean. We went for the Emma as everyone has bug's so we wanted something different (THIS PRAM WAS WORTH EVERY CENT). Baby Bjorn sitter / Wooden toy - Was expensive (especially once you added on the toy), but she lived in it for 6 months, but since she was sitting from 6 months didn't use it again, so doesn't last long, if you can try and get one second hand, but I don't regret buying it and when you live in an apartment at least it looks good. 2 bamboo sheet sets - I would only ever get a flat sheet to start with, you never use the top sheet when they are in a cot, so kind of a waste of money getting the whole shebang, also we got the bamboo blanket, but we didn't really use that either... We also bought 6 muslim wraps, I didn't really like using these ones as she wriggled out of them, I ended up just using the traditional wraps... Skip Hop Nappy Bag - Hmm, I didn't get my $$ from this, I hardly ever use the nappy bag, I use a smaller bag I can slide into my big handbag
Then afterwards we bought: Leander Danish by Design High Chair - we debated forever about this, it's expensive but we love it! It looks great and I know she will use it for such a long time. Silver Cross Pop Vogue Stroller - Love this stroller, it's a great brand but no frills, totally the opposite to our Emma pram, love love love it!! Toys - We haven't gone overboard with toys, I am actually going to start a toy swap with my sister, she has a bub 10 weeks younger so we will do a rotation every month or so to mix it up for the kids, we are out and about most days so she get's lots of stimulation from that, but she loves anything that is musical and my no plastic was impossible to keep, for the greater good of her development, yes wooden toys are sweet, but she does need some plastic toys too - it's about her not about me anymore!! Still we do draw the line and only toys that really are educational and stimuate her make the cut.
Anyway that's all the main things I can think of... I hope that this little review helps someone!!!
Stuff we bought that we found we hardly used were,
Nappy bag was only good for infants so don't spend mega $$$$$, Once the children were toddlers the nappy bag became redundant. We used a small backpack instead and it was so much better.
baby bath, Most of the time baby had a bath with me and was scooped up by dh and dressed.
big expensive pram. I did love my big pram but also became redundant once child was one. They both prefered to walk or go in the layback stroller. If I had my time again I'd only buy the layback stroller. SOme of those can cost big $$$$$ But they are only suitable for newborns if they layback almost flat.
