    IVF psychologists

    Hi all,

I was curious if anyone has accessed support through the psychologists/counsellors and if so what was there experience? I am thinking of seeing one as I am finding this ttc struggle hard to cope with... I am someone who usually copes well in stressful situaitons however this has knocked me for 6.

    thanks!

Not my personal experience but a good friend of mine recently went through ivf to conceive her bub and her and hubby accessed fertility counselling. She said it was fantastic and it really helped them (and her).

    Good luck babe!

Hey there. I guess it depends what you want from them.......I am also extremely in control in every day life but got to a point last week where things were so on top of me I thought I'd give it a go - there has to a reason why so many people use it, right? If you want to have an outlet to talk about whatever you want to it will be what you need, if you want practical strategies/ways to get through/to know if what you are feeling is 'normal' or another perspective on how you could be or how other people handle things then it is a complete waste of time and energy. I tried two different people last week and at the end of it felt angry and oh so frustrated and no further ahead. What has made me feel better this week was a spa day followed by a night out with girlfriends on Saturday where although they both knew, it never came up and I felt like the young, happy, pre-IVF me. Was good to know that person was still there! This IVF thing not so fun with every step of the way but you can and will do it. Best of luck. Hugs, K.

    Thanks Dantri and Kashby.

Dantri - it's good to know that someone found it helpful.. Of course now I'm having a good day so things dont feel so bad (picked up my synarel today so feels real). When I feel really low though I just want something to make it all better....

Thanks Kashby - I really do want practical strategies to help me cope. Someone listening is helpful, but I have my very close friend who is good at that....it sucks that you were very disappointed. I work in crisis work and I think it's hard for us to see counsellors as we know all the
"tricks". We are a very tough audience unfortunatley...

Oh what to do...those low days just get so bad it's hard to get out of bed. Fortunatley I have talk to my direct supervisor about those really bad days and she is very understanding and has given me permission to not come in if i have one of those days...easier said than done because when I have the bad days all I really want is to be my normal self again and I have a very good work ethic. I think I have had a total of 8 days of in 4 years...

I do have access to internal EAP counsellors...I wonder what they are like..

    Anyway, thanks for your responses!
