Septic tank - what cleaning products??

So, our new property has a septic tank. I have just been told that I need to use 'natural' cleaning products so that I don't destroy all the good bacteria in the system who are busy doing their whole break-down-the-poo thing.

But I love my bleach!! No more white king?? Perish the thought!

So what cleaning products do you use with your septic? Remember, go easy on me - I'm a ChemicalCleaner-aholic.

Chick I have had bio cycle which is kind of similar for years! I still use most normal cleaning stuff just not as much. I try and use earth friendly washing liquid in the sink and washing machine as that's were most of your cleaning type water comes from, I use the powerful stuff for washing the shower and toilet.
My parents have septic and mum does the same

    Domestos is septic safe.

I do sometimes use White King though, as it is the only thing that can clean our old bath (for from reason domestos sends it bright orange). I just use a little as I can get away with and wash it down with as much water as possible (whilst at the same time not trying to waste the precious tank water).

If you do manage to stuff your bacteria, you can buy something to get it right again. Think it was just a sachet from Bunnings.

My Mum has a septic system and I know she buys a special enzyme cleaner. No idea what it's called but I can ask her. I was actually really impressed with it and had swapped to a similar product for a while instead of bleach until our local supermarket stopped stocking it. :grrrr: She gets hers mail order from somewhere in Perth. I gets rid of smells completely (even dog urine) and is safe to use all over the place.

we have septic here and there are some great products you can use that are septic safe
domestos of course - cleans and sanitizes everything
the earth choice stuff is great too- i use the toilet cleaner, dishwashing soap and floor cleaner
i also use a disinfectant you get from coles- its in a purple bottle that is plant derived- its great, smells yum but i cant remember whats it called
there is also a great shower cleaner i use as well - something like shower power i think its called
the method cleaners are also good too
really didnt find it too hard to adjust to septic as i thought it would be
just read the back of the packet
btw i throw a sachet of yeast down the toilet every few months to feed the bacteria. seems to keep the septic going too

This is us too. I don't overly worry about what I use.

If you flush some Actizyme down the dunny every so often, that will keep the septic kicking along nicely.
