Really had enough at the moment!

DS is 2 and seems to be wanting to feed all the time. I mean like up to 4 times an hour. I can't do anything, I can't get a task, cup of tea, lunch anything actually finished with out him wanting milk. If I ask him to wait he whinges and cries and climbs all over me (if I'm sitting) or hangs on to my legs crying if I'm up doing something. He just cries saying "I can't have milk I want my mum"

He's always been a frequent feeder, but this is getting ridiculous. I really feel like I'm going to explode with frustration and just want to be left the #!*@$! alone for a while, even to complete a task But I feel bad for being cranky with him, because all he wants is milk

Has anyone else had this? Is it going to calm down? How did you cope?

just quickly, i have introduced set times for my DD. so instead of saying no all the time- i can say 'we will have a feed after lunch' or 'before bedtime'.

Totally normal. Is he teething or sick or has there been a big change in his life? If not, then I would just start implementing boundaries right away. You might like t have a ten second rule, or ten sucks rule and count back from ten. Or you might like to have a special place to feed, so that it's associated with quiet time, not an any-old-time thing. With dd, I used to just take her to the bed to lie down so it became just a bed time thing for us...then if shed ask I'd say 'oh are you sleepy, you need to go to bed?' and most of the time shed change her mind.

It's perfectly fine to set boundaries. It's your body and you need to find a way that works for both of you

I don't think he's teething, I should probably check that out though. He had an infection under his foreskin last week which really freaked him out it was excruciating to wee for him. Because of that he wouldn't wear nappies and asked to use the toilet. So he is pretty much TT now. Only one or 2 accidents since, even with trips out and only been wet over night twice out of 10 nights. A pretty good effort for surprise TT. I was thinking it could be that big change. His poor little penis hasn't bothered him for a about 7 days, but I guess it could be left over emotions from all that, do you think?
Now I feel even worse If he just needs a little extra TLC at the moment. It's just so constant it's really getting to me.

I've tried putting him off by saying we can have milk after breakfast etc, but he just screams and cries until he gets the milk. Maybe I'm too soft?

I feel like such a sook.

my child was like that, when in pain. She preferred breastmilk, over panadol.

you're not a sook hon, just very exhausted and worried about your LO.

    suggestions:
visit GP to rule out medical issues (for his penis), pain management if needed
    ring aba helpline for ideas 1800 686 2 686

First of all you are not a sook, such frequent feeding and interupting what you need to get done is frustrating and would try even the most patient of mothers.

My DS was also a frequent feeder, by 2 it was starting to slow down but on the days where he did feed as frequently as your DS was always the leadup to some sort of sickness, be it a cold, teething etc... By the time the sickness appeared I would be well and truly over it too and then have that uh-ha moment and feel that guilt too so I wouldn't be surprised if it was either cause he was sick or might be coming down with something or teething or all 3 at once

My other suggestion would be can you have some time out? even just a couple of hours without DS this weekend? just to give yourself some time (I found that if I wasn't around that he seemed distracted by whatever was happening around him that he was ok without me)

Kelebek, I know what you mean about on coming sickness, wanting more milk, then getting that uh-ha moment. I need to keep that in mind when I'm getting frustrated. Thank you for reminding me.
DS has is visiting his grandpa at the moment he's been there for an hour or s and I feel so much more relaxed already.

Gigi the penis is all good now. If it is related to that I think it's just the memory of it IYKWIM. He could be still a bit off from the emotional side of it, and the big change of using the toilet and no more nappies I guess.

Thank you everyone for your replies

oh, reading these posts again today, i didn't see the bloomin obvious yesterday. HE IS TOILET TRAINING! he's in transition. that could be part of it, his world is changing and he is looking for reassurance, in a way that is familiar to him.

when bilby went thru tt-ing, she was fine with wees, but TERRIFIED at the thought of pooping in a potty or toilet. That was hard for her, to get past that fear. Not saying your LO is the same, just that, things that seem weird to us (as something to get worried about), can be big for them.

Plus the recent experience of a sore penis, yes, he sounds out of sorts. Knowing your child gets reassurance from nursing, is nice, but when it's super frequent, VERY wearing out. I would ring ABA for help.

Yep Gigi I think it's the TT and like your LO the poos are freaking him out a bit. He's doing really well though. I need to be more patient, it will pass, it will pass...
