    Puppy toilet training

This puppy is driving us MAD. She gets taken out as soon as she wakes up from her naps, sometimes she'll do her stuff outside, most of the time she'll stuff around out there and then run inside and do it on the floor wherever she feels like. Yesterday she pooed on the couch

I don't get it, we've never had trouble house training pets before, they always learned quickly. Guinan follows her mum everywhere, including outside where mum does her business, so she knows to go outside - but she doesn't!

ANY tips would be much appreciated

Hmmm, im not really much help, we crate trained and used the GuideDogs training manual for ours....... but that involves the animals not being allowed on any furniture ever...... though let me know if you want me to dig out the manual and send you some of the toilet training tips though

We also crate trained our dogs but only of a night. The crate was in our bedroom. This involved waking every couple of hours to take the pup to the toilet. Once outside on the grass I would repeat over and over again 'go wizzle' once the pup did the poo/wee we would make a huge celebration out of it with small treats. Throughout the day I would take them to the toilet after playing, sleeping, jumping up, every hour or if they began sniffing the floor... Always saying 'go wizzle' once they were on the grass and celebrating. We also found it best to not smack of yell your head off at the dog, a stern 'bad' accompanied by a finger movement was enough when they made a mistake.

    My tips are to
    - pick a toilet 'Que word' & continue repeating it once the pup is in the desired toilet area. They will associate this with going to the toilet eventually & you will be able to just take them outside say the que word and they will go.
    - Really celebrate and reward your pup when they go to the toilet in the correct spot using praise or treats.
    - Be consistent with taking them outside.
And if you can the crate is the best thing as dogs HATE to use the toilet where they sleep therefore once they need to go they will let you know and you can take them straight to the correct toilet spot. It really shortens the length of time it will take for the toilet training to sink in.

    Good luck!
