    Which do you prefer???

DH and I are expecting DS2. We had serious trouble choosing DS's name and now we're stuck again. Our two current favourites are Atticus and Caspar. DS is Finn (Finnian though we NEVER call him by his full name) and surname starts with M and is two syllables. Middle name likely to be Bede.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, along with any additional suggestions

ETA - unsure of nicknames for either option (DH likes to be able to shorten a name) and we're worried Caspar would invoke 'Caspar the friendly ghost'... What do you think?

    Caspar .

While Atticus is one of my favorite fictional characters, I don't think it suits a child.

I like Atticus. What would he get called for short?

Hard to be objective though, because I know a young Caspar and think of him when I think of the name...

I like Atticus. Caspar doesn't seem to be as strong a name?
If it was Casper I think he'd get called Caz.
Not sure of a NN for Atticus though!
    All the best!

My DS is Caspar..Atticus was on my list too Everyone we meet remarks that they love his name...although lots of people also say 'like the friendly ghost'

I'd hate for it to be shortened to Caz...we often call him 'C' but my brother has called him Cass a few times which I don't mind

I love the meaning of the name - 'keeper of treasure'

I know two Atticus, a 2 year old and a 18 month old - not sure what they get as nick names - will pay more attention. I voted for Atticus - but do like Caspar too - I think of the Eels song - Friendly Ghost but that does come from the Caspar the friendly ghost link - but personally don't think that is an issue.

I adore Atticus but DH won't have a bar of it I think it's the best and Atticus Finch is a wonderful character to be named for.

I imagine a nickname would be Atty or Atto later on. Aussies seem to love adding 'o' to their friends' names. Probably pronounced Addy/ Addo

I think Atticus and Finn go really well together. Caspar is also spelt Casper which can create a pain for spelling.

Hummmm If I had to pick I would go Atticus, are you naming him after Atticus Fitch the writer? If so, that's nice

    Have you thought about Jasper??

P.S If you do decide to go with Caspar I wouldn't worry about the "friendly ghost" call. Kids these days don't really know Caspar the TV Character its more of a 80's / 90's thing I would have thought

    Good luck choosing!

Oh, I love the name Atticus so very much. I had it on my list for my last 4 babies but DH said no

We would have called him Atti or At for short.

I LOVE Atticus but there is no way we could use it with our surname, so pleeeeeeeease use it! In childcare I have looked after one of each.
    Atticus did get called "Atty"
Caspar never got "friendly ghost" but even if he did, ummm, so what? It's not like that's a horrible thing to be called.

But they were both very, er, "spirited" kids
