How do I know if this is a period or just bleeding 1 week after d&c?

    Hi BB ladies,
all your wisdom may help shed some light here for me (as it has done before!)

I had a d&c 1 week ago, diagnosed with a blighted ovum at 11 weeks since LMP (02/12/2011)

I had very minimal bleeding after the op. However I have now been spotting/light bleeding after a week.

    Anyone had this happen?

I have a follow up appt with the OB/Gyn that performed the op on the 19th March.
The hospital told us to wait 1 cycle until TTC again, so no BD has happened.

    TIA

I'd say it is just bleeding to do with the D&C. I'd keep an eye on it & if it gets worse call the OB/GYN and tell them what is happening & ask for an emergency appt. If you can't get it, go to the hospital or GP. It does seem a little odd that the bledding stopped and then started again - (is that correct?)

When should af have been due? Mine came at the normal time due - which was 2 weeks after my d&c - my cycle didn't reset from the d&c as I thought it would.

MLR - I'm so sorry about your little bubble. I've had 2 blighted ovums, they're cruel
I think it would be unlikely to be your period 1 week after d&c but you should call and ask the specialist if the spotting is normal (might be perfectly fine ).
I had a d&c in the middle of a cycle when I wasn't preg, then got my period at it's normal time (d&c didn't reset anything). But I would think since you were preg, your body would have to lose all the baby hormones, ovulate, then you'd get your period.
    Good luck with everything x

As per the responses above, call your Dr if you're concerned. It is possible that extended bleeding can indicate an incomplete d&c, but I'm not sure what qualifies as "extended".

I had fairly light bleeding after my d&c and then 1 week after (Sunday night after d&c previous Monday) suddenly had heavy bleeding. That tapered off after a couple of days and then another week later (the next Sunday) it got heavy again. The bleeding then stopped altogether a few days later (17 days bleeding total). AF started 5 weeks after the d&c.

MLR so sorry to hear about your mc. I had a blighted ovum discovered at 8 weeks, D&C at 9 weeks, a few data of bleeding, then just over a week later another few days of bleeding that felt more AF like. We DTD about 3 weeks later (I normally o on day 20) and magically for the first time in my life got a positive the normal way. Unfortunately I lost this at 6 weeks (it wasn't another Bo as saw heartbeat 2 days before). So for me the second bleed was definately AF.

Wishing you all the best in this terrible time and hope you can move forward soon xx
