As the title says!!
Wanting o hear where most people end up working, I dont want to work in aged care so wanting to hear where people work other than in ths area.
Obviously i am not an EN but a close friend is. She was in aged care but she applied for a job at one of the local hospitals for the post grad program. She's not coping with the hours as she has two young kids so very soon she is looking at getting a job at a medical centre in treatment rooms.
My local hospital hires Div 2 nurses (is that what you mean by enrolled nurse?) on all wards including maternity. The div 2 basically fetches and carries equipment and is a witness for straightforward births instead of having a second midwife there.
I am an RN but when I was working in outpatients casually there was lots of EN's working there Majority of staff were EN and only had 3 RN per day) so was work of assisting drs in things, dressings, wee testing, weight etc. I really enjoyed my time there. Hours were great and other staff all loved it too.
My last job was in aged care but I loved where I worked. Before that I worked as a Practice Nurse in a medical centre which was a great job! Besides that I've worked in a couple of other nursing homes, a hospital as well as agency nursing that was a mix of hospital, nursing homes and rehab.
You would be awesome Olive! Can I just clarify, I re-read my post and it looks like I think the div 2 does very little which is absolutely not the case. It's just she can't do the actual midwifery bits but she is always around to get whatever equipment is needed, and helps settle women/rub backs/etc. TBH it looks like a great role, and when I qualify as a div 2 nurse (hopefully I can do this at the end of 2nd year) then I would love to go maternity ward div 2 work for extra experience.
The other hospital I train at has also offered students div 2 work on a casual basis from second year and in rehab, for instance, a div 2 does a very similar role to a div 1. There's only a few things the div 2 isn't allowed to do compared to a div 1.
At the hospital I work at, we have EN's in all areas of the hospital except for PICU and NICU.
I just do casual pool at the moment and work all over the hospital... I work a lot in Emergency and we have quite a few EN's there, as well as in all the other wards like cardiac, burns, orthopaedics, transplant, surgical ward, general medical, mental health, etc... A friend of mine who is now an RN, was working as a scrub/scout nurse in theatres when she was an EN. And I've also seen EN's working in special care nursery at some hospitals.
