Hi All
I've just got my DH to give my 3rd injection of gonal F.
I'm at 450iu, which, after reading other posts and forums seems quite high. I imagine it's the age thing. However I still haven't done an injection myself, still too squeamish.
So tomorrow I will take the plunge with my DH supervising.
I couldn't find anywhere that said to take the shots at roughly the same time. Tonight we've done it early 6.45 pm ish as we are heading out for the Sydney Mardi Gras. We'd tend to do it after 10pm as I go straight to bed afterwards.
I can't say I feel anything apart from odd twinges - so just wondering what should I be feeling or looking out for? Still have remnants of my period as well.
Hi sonia, yes that is a high dose, i think mine was 225, but i was a good responder - it all depends on the individual. As for symptons, i dont think i had any early ones, just found that after about 7 days, bloating sets in, and peaks after egg pick up. Ithinksome others here have talked aout headaches and nausea, but not me.
Good luck sweeite, the jabs are easy when you remember what its all for!!! Definitely aim for the same time each time, my FS was very clear about that!!
Yes, we are going to try and balance out the 24hours tonight. I have blood tests and a scan this Friday, so am really hoping all is well with the follicles. The nurse did say she wanted to see a length of at least 18mm(?).
Good thing I've been reading up - it's really hard to ask the right questions, when you don't know what to ask or where to start!
Hi Sonia - How exciting! Good on your DH for helping you. I have no doubt you can do this yourself and you will be surprised how easy it is once you have done it. Important to take the dose at the same time every night - I set an alarm to do so. I didn't feel anything except for a few twinges as the follicles got bigger later on so do not be surprised if you do not feel anything - if there is anything excessive or unusual, make sure you talk to your clinic. I was on 450 and then 600 so it is what it is for each of us. Best of luck, K.
I use gonal-f in my Jan cycle. Like you I got DH to do the injections. Couldn't bring myself to do it myself despite lots of reassurance from the lovely ladies here that it would be ok. I found it helped involved DH in the process and with all the poking and proding i really needed to feel like we were in this together.
In terms of side effects. I didn't have too many. I think I had that full, bloated and heavy feeling after about a week of injections. The odd twinge in the ovaries and a few headaches. Emotionally I was a little all over the place, but I am not sure how much that had to do with the medication and how much was just about the rollercoaster of IVF.
But I only did half..haha. I put the needle in but couldn't do the rest. DH was brilliantly calm. My hand and arm just shook with nerves and it took me so long to steady myself.
Just putting the needle in was hard enough. I've watched so many videos now on how to do it and hopefully tomorrow I can do it by myself.
Kashby, Jane
Thanks so much for your kind words. Yes, DH is feeling quite involved and it's nice being able to lean on him. Also I've taken note of what everyone has said about timings and will not miss any more and try to keep the time to my bedtime now.
The jabs still hurts a bit but I am seriously a big wuss with needles..I know I've got to have more.
Sonia - how are you going? Are you holding up OK? Have you done one yourself yet? Thinking of you, K.
PS I guess you have seen the LTTTC Feb-March 2012 thread? When I first started IVF and asking questions on BB, I did not know about it and subsequently was told to have a look. I have found it oh so helpful from a support perspective and a great source of information. Feel free to come and join us.
I can't believe I did it - I kinda went on auto pilot and stopped thinking and just put the needle in and pressed the plunger thingy. My DH couldn't believe it. I listened to all of his tips and followed them to the letter.
Yep it still hurts after the needle comes out - kind of stinging and itchy but I keep massaging the area. Actually I read the pack and it is Puregon I am using. I'm sure Gonal F and Puregon are same/similar.
Even though the dial is set for 450iu there is always some left after 2 jabs - should that be so?
Also I'm still not 'feeling' anything apart from period style cramps this afternoon.
I hope I can do this again on my own tonight, as DH is going out on Saturday.
Kashby and Jane - I'm going to have a good look around the LTTC thread now x
Yes, puregon and gonal-f are both FSH, so pretty much the same. There is always overfill in the vials, so that's normal. There's normally about 1000iu in the 900iu vial. If you wanted to you could use it, but it would mean doing 2 injections (100 to finish off the vial and then 350 from the new one) instead of one.
I'm a poor responder and was on 450iu of gonal-f with our last IVF, which gave us DD. My first FS wouldn't go above 325iu, but we changed and our new one said 450iu.
Have you had a follicle check (u/s) yet? I hope this cycle goes well for you.
Hi everyone,
I'm on day 3 of gonal-f today... I'm only on 100 iu and also on metformin as I had about 30 follicles last time with only 35 iu on my IUI run. I'm curious to see what happens and will be going to have the first scan on Wednesday... This is my first IVF cycle and I'm a bit nervous. How did everyone go and is there anyone out there starting this month?
Hope you had/will have a positive result!
