Some of them I have had from DD1 so when they started falling apart I just assumed it was because they were old. But it's happening to fairly new ones now too.
All (probably 15-20) of my BBH inserts are wrecked. They just got all thin and stretched looking, now they are see through! And the inserts from my GF's and GK's have now just got great big holes in them, they are literally falling to pieces!! WTF??
It seems to have happened all of a sudden. I haven't changed washing powder or anything. I usually wash every 2 days but when they started getting wrecked I washed at the end of every day but it didn't make a difference.
I am running out of inserts! And I have some pretty nappies that now can't be used. Some were barely 2 months old when this started. Now I am scared to put them on her or buy any to replace them because they will just get ruined. About to give up!
Happened here too, think sometimes the quality of the bamboo that gets out there isn't the best, and this is what happens. I say that because it happens to every type of brand of nappy, some worse than others though, so must be where they get their material from.
I've had it happen to us from ittis to widdlewuns to cushie tushies.
I just got the boosters replaced whenever it happened, although now am selling my stash cos I'm over it. LOL
This happened to a friend of mine and she established it was her daughters wee,. We swapped one BBH each and marked them, the one of mine she took started disintergrating where as the one i had got no worse. Hemp lasted longer but all her bamboo disintergrated, after replacing a batch and the brand new ones doing the same in about 2months she gave up on cloth. :-( she had already full time clothed her elder DD so she was not one to give up easily.
I thought it was a wee issue too but it's happened with more than one of my kids so I presumed it's the quality of the bamboo.
My nappy making friend told me that there was a rumour going around awhile ago about crappy bamboo. So we made the assumption it was from that, not the wee.
Same thing started happening here a few months ago! I actually thought it was mainly due to the fact I used to wash ever day or 2 but then due to less volume it was sometimes getting to three days, and thats when things really deteriorated. But yeah, my Cushie Tushies were the first to go, followed by Iishflys and my GF nappy Knickers lumped together and stuffed totally, and am getting the holey problem in my GF inserts too - the only thing that has held utterly strong has been the old style BBBamboo & Hemps! I agree with the potent wee theory though - DD2 seems to wee pure acid sometimes - she's only been part-time cloth since her first teeth appeared at 6 months because her wee gives her a rash - so think that was the clincher.
The only thing that has helped here that I've been doing with my new ones is rinsing them and leaving them soggy in the nappy bin - or putting them on a quick wash cycle at the end of the day and washing them properly the next day. But it is a massive pain in the butt. I seem to be using disposables more than my clothies these days
Thanks everyone. I was thinking it was her wee too. Because it's not just one type of nappy it's all of them, and old as well as new, and it all happened at the same time! It's so frustrating!!!!!!! Ahhh.....not sure what to do about it.
Oh how frustrating! But I agree that it would be a wee issue or a water quality issue maybe? You could always trying rinsing the nappy first and then putting in the bucket and washing more frequently. Thankgoodness mine haven't done that, unless that is the reason for the total disappearance of some of my inserts?
I have found this to be a problem too - but only with some of my nappies. My homemade bamboo prefolds have survived perfectly, but my bambooties are shredded and practically useless.
