20 week scan

only one week till my 20 week scan and I am nervous scared and totally excited at the same time.. excited to see my bubba and to hopefully find the sex but also scared that something wrong will be found...

anyone else experience the same? What should I expect?

Be prepared that it takes quite a while and that it doesnt mean something is wrong just because they keep going over one area, they spend lots of time on the heart and brain. I found lying on my back so long uncomfertable too. Often you dont get much information from the technician so dont be upset if they dont tell you too much, some do some dont so try not to put to much stock in their attitude and how forthcoming they are with info as it depends on the individual.

Enjoy seeing your buba and finding out the gender! Its a stressful but exciting time, as is most of pregnancy

I think it's normal to feel nervous and excited. It takes around 30mins i think. With any luck you will have a good technician who talks through what they're doing. Sometimes you need to let them know whether you do/dont want to know the sex. If the baby isnt being cooperative they may get you to lie on your side or give it a bit of a pike to get it moving!

My first 20w scan took about 45 minutes.
This 20w scan took over an hour. Bub was being so difficult.
I'm happy to say that I am expecting a healthy little bub this time, but unfortunately it wasn't the case for my DD.
Please know that the chance anything going wrong at your scan is small.

Like the others have said, be prepared for it to take a while. Also, if your bub is unco-operative like mine was be prepared for a bit of discomfort (read pain) when the sonographer has to really push the scanner thingy to get movement and/or the bub's position right.

It is daunting because as much as we all hold that "these things happen to someone else" hope, its still in the back of your mind. Go in armed with the knowledge that most of the time the worst thing to come out of your scan is the price of the bill.

Enjoy seeing your bub again. I'm predicting a pink one for you.

thank you all so much for giving me your feedback... friends and family say not to worry which I try but I guess after 3 miscarriages in a row (even though I am sure if I didnt experience that I would still be panicking) but I keep thinking can I be this lucky this time?? Have I really been blessed with an earth angel this time? I have to keep positive.... and thank you LuluHB if the worst thing is the bill (which is what I hope will be the only thing that shocks me) then I will be thankful...

Thank you for sharing Hannah's story. I watch One Born Every Minute on Foxtel and this week had a little baby with the same condition. I am so glad you stayed strong and never gave up on Hannah. She is beautiful. If it wasn't for your strength she wouldn't be here today. x

Scan came back all fine thank god... in the 55 percentile what ever that means Amost wet myself a few times but got through it ok...

And best of all we got to see the sex of our little one... we are having a boy! DH is over the moon, and I always wanted a boy first so I cried my eyes out when she showed us the "boy bits" as she called it!

Then finished off the day at the baby expo! GREAT DAY!

55th centile means bascially if there was 100 babies, yours would be the 55th biggest. So, I'd call that perfect!!

Thanks so much to all I am so excited for the next few months... dont want it to go too quickly though... trying to enjoy each day as it comes, think I will miss the kicking in the belly once the baby is here... strange I know!
