Breast lump in 4 week old

Today we noticed DD (4wks) has developed a good size lump under her left nipple. We took her to the Dr and were told it was just hormonal and not to worry about it. If it doesn't start to decrease in size in 48 hours then to go back.

At the moment, the lump is roughly the same diameter as a ping pong ball, her nipple now looks inverted and DH thinks he may have seen some discharge from the nipple last night (but didn't think to tell me ). It wasn't until I undressed her today that I noticed it. To be honest, it scared me a little when I saw it. I have heard about lumps in babies, being hormonal and nothing to worry about but I didn't expect it to be as big as it is. It looks painful.

Last night she was really unsettled, but today has been really good, lots of good sleeps and feeding well. I just can't stop thinking about it. Part of me says it's nothing, and the other part is freaking out. I haven't googled anything, because I know that googling anything to do with lumps will never end well!

Just hoping to hear some other people's similar experiences? How long was the lump there, it's size, if there was any discharge from the nipple etc?

Pie had a breast lump, just under her nipple, about the size of a largish marble for a few months. There wasn't any discharge. I can't remember exactly when it went away but I think around the 6 - 8 month mark. It was a bit worrying initially but went away - just like they said it would

Yes. my boy grew man boobs at about 4 weeks, they were really quite large and hard, about the diameter you describe. And yes, they leaked a milky coloured fluid once or twice. I am pretty sure they went down in a week, and my healthcare nurse said that they are perfectly normal, its just the hormones.

My dd is 14 months and has one. Apparently it is hormonal and from bf. I was worried too at first but it hasn't grown or changed and doesn't cause pain. My Dr called it a breast bud.
