So I'm 37 wks tomorrow. Ob says bub is big , I have GD, possible induction at 40wks and I have my sis-in-law here (from NZ) for next 3 wks. We have no other family/friends who can help look after DD while I'm in labour ........soooo...
trying to find all possible ways to naturally "induce" labour. Have any of you girls used anything and what has worked??
RLT does not induce labour. It apparently tones the uterine muscles to make them more efficient when labour starts though and is well worth trying. Clary sage is very potent and usually causes contractions. However if your body is not ready for labour it will not work, other than causing braxton hicks. If you do use it, do it sparingly. It can be added to a carrier oil (about 6 drops to 12ml carrier oil) as a massage blend. You might want to add another oil too for fragrance. Lavendar, Jasmine and Rose are all nice with relaxing or uterine contracting side effects. If you add oil to your bath use only 2 or 3 drops and add it to milk before adding it to your bath. Milk makes the oil disperse through the water, but also inceases the rate or absorption into the water. Make sure if you but oil it is pure essential oil and read the accompanying leaflet carefully. I love clary sage and use it for PMS, headaches, stress, etc. It is very powerful at strengthening and regulating contractions when in labour but treat it like a strong drug as it is so potent.
A friend used clary sage oil for her DS after her DD was 10 days overdue and induced. She started burning it on Wednesday evening and her DS was born Thursday morning (four days before her EDD). I know nothing about this oil other than this but what Traveller said sounds like good advice!
My sister rubbed Clary Sage Oil into her tummy when she was pregnant with my eldest niece. She was 5 days overdue and had my niece at 10 days overdue, the oil did nothing.
^^What Traveller said - the RLT will help tone the uterus but will not induce labour. Clary Sage can encourage or strengthen contractions, although you should use it carefully.
Unfortunately the bottom line is bub will comes when they are ready... I know, I tried everything! The best advice I can give you is to try & relax - I know that is much easier said than done - but honestly, I stressed so hard trying to hurry labour along and in the end it wasn't until I relaxed & let go that it happened. I hope you're not waiting too long.
Lotsa loving. Get into it with DH. Semen can help ripen the cervix. The volume needed is quite high though, so who knows if it actually works, but it can't hurt. And nipple stimulation can help too. Get the oxytocin flowing!
Acupuncture can also help.
And big emotional releases - any movies that are guaranteed to make you cry?? Put it on.
Thanks girls. I agree with Traveller too. Seems RLT and clary sage will only work to make labor efficient and not really bring it on Tried RLT with DD at 32 weeks and had very strong painful BH contractions. took only 2 tablets for 2 days. Cx stopped as soon as I stopped the tabs. Then took them again for a day at 37 weeks - got major cx and DD was born at 37 + 2days
Ha! Ha! OceanPrincess - DH will NOT come near me at this stage - have already tried coaxing him
I tried Clary Sage. A lot. I had it in my foot spa, I used it in a burner, I put it in massage oils, and did all of these things every day from 39 + 3.
DD was born at 40 + 12
But we tried everything. It was kinda fun trying, we had a lot of laughs, tried to keep it positive. I also took RLT from 30 weeks, right through to almost 42, in increasing doses. I had an amazing (gel-induced) birth, so between the two, I'm sure they did some good, even if it wasn't in that inducing power that we wanted.
