Breasts soft (never feel full) this time round - is this a problem?

Hi,

With my DD I always felt like my Breasts were hard and then after she fed from each one I could tell I was empty cause they were soft.

This time, they have stayed soft and not even gotten that big! Is this a problem? or is it normal for a second bub? I am feeding approx every 3-4 hours. My DS was 3.54kg when born weighed 3.20kg on day 4 and on day 10 was back up to 3.5kg so I assume he is getting enough milk. He is very sleepy so I need to wake him for most feeds.

Just worried because I never feel full! and last time I was full all the time - so much so it was painful and I couldn't wait to feed my DD for the relief I felt!! lol

I had the same with DD2 they just never seemed full. With DD1 they were rock hard just before a feed, then they went soft after her feeds. With DD2 it never happened, but she was happy and growing for I figured it wasnt a problem. This time round with DD3 its a bit in between... So I assume its different every time round.

his weigh gains seem excellent! so it sounds like he's getting enough. i agree with PPs that it's different each time.

my breasts never felt full with DS - so much so that even when he was still feeding probably 6-8 times a day when he was 9 or 10 months & i was away from him for 15 hours, i STILL didn't feel full. i never had a problem with supply though.

I have enough for several kids and with DS they never got full either. Funny thing though, this time round, they are shocking and DD2 is my chunkiest bub and biggest feeder yet.

Mine have never felt rock hard full. I've never had that "OMG my milk has come in" thing either!

Totally normal. In the early days with DS I didn't feel full much at all, but now I do just before a feed - which started after his 12 week growth spurt. I usually go by weight gains and how much is coming out the other end to judge whether there's enough going in

Congrats on your baby!
It's not unusual to skip engorgement with subsequent babies, I think.
The weight gain sounds good! You can watch intake by watching output - several poos a day (or many more!) plus some wet ones and 8-12 feeds, plus weight gains etc are all good signs.
Sometimes babies are sleepy early on and take a bit of time to get 'up to speed' so waking to feed frequently can be necessary to ensure you establish a good supply. Sounds like you're doing fine so far!

I think its normal?!! With DS1 i had supply issues, and struggled. With DS2 i was determined to do it right, and it worked out fine (ie no supply issues this time) but i never feel full, and even when DS doesnt wake for his first night feed until 2am (so 6 1/2 hrs) since his bedtime feed, i still dont feel full. His weight gains have been awesome, and he is quite settled, so obviously its not a problem.
