    Give me some recommendations...

OK, bub is due in 10 weeks.

I want to make sure (if all goes well and we have a take home baby) that there is no future pregnancies after Beez.
Given my family history and the increased risk of DDs birth defect happening again we don't plan to have more than 2 kids.

I would love to get my tubes done, but I can't. For some stupid reason (which I understand) I can't get that done til I'm 30.
Which means I have a good 10 years of needing some other form of contraception. 10 years!
Vasectomy is completely out of the question, DH is 25 but I've watched a few men (including my father) go through follow up operations. 12 years on and my dad still has problems. They nicked a nerve during the op and things spiralled from there. I'm not risking DH going through that.

And besides, if something happened and DH and I divorced then it's me who finds pregnancy too stressful and dangerous.

The Pill (Levlen ED) made me a complete hormonal mess and I had rapid weight gain.
    Microlut gave me weird bleeding.
Condoms are fine, but at a dollar a pop I don't want to be spending that much money for 10 years. Especially since I'm allergic to latex so have to buy more expensive ones.

I'm researching the mirena but I'm just wondering if there's many other options.

Yes, I plan to breastfeed for as long as possible but I want extra protection.

    Thanks ladies.

What about a diaphram? Well that is assuming they still do them these days, I have not heard it mentioned in awhile.

They still do diaphragms. They take a little while to learn to use properly but they're still effective.

I can't, due to my latex allergy.

    mmm your options are limited.
i would see a good OBGYN with your views on birth control.
All hormonal options are very sensitive (i am no impressed with the push to allow the pill to be an OTC medication at all!)

DH had the snip and she has been fine, no problems, perhaps he could talk to a few different places about it - the can do it under local now.

You can get copper UID as well.

I have had a huge journey with hormones the past 18 months due to PMDD and i have avoided mirena as i am extremely sensitive to progesterone.

but there are so many ooptions for the pill the 2 you used are pretty broad, perhaps talk about one that only contains 2 hormones and low doses to reduce your risk of hormonal outbursts??

I'd speak to your gp or OBGYN.
I have the Mirena and really haven't had any side affects.
I had irregular bleeding on the pill & Mini. Pill but with Mirena I get some spotting or a small bleed monthly & that's it. Sometimes I get nothing.

I could have written your exact post. We are looking at the Mirena.

Levlen ED made me hormonal. I have loads of else effects with it including mid cycle spotting and bleeding. Before having Amelia, it worked great!

my experience with depo - is i had 12 weeks of 24/7 migraines, i ended up having to take estrogen to balance out the progesterone until it wore off!

It's funny I was on the pill for years before I had kids. After having them I turned into a complete psychopath on the pill! I am very interested in what transpires of this thread - I am really looking into the Mirena as well...

I would love something that stops my periods completely or at least makes them not come very often.

I went to the Mirena website and it looks like alot of work. Having to check all the time to make sure it hasn't moved and such.
I thought about getting the thing-in-the-arm but apparently they hurt really badly to get in and everyone I know who has it stacked on heaps weight really fast.

i have also had the implanon - and it doesnt hurt much at all - they usually give you a local before hand.
however yes stacked on weight - spotted for 2 months, acne and mood swings!
