What is the filling between these cake layers?

I'm going to attempt this cake and I'm wondering if anyone can work out what the filling is between the layers?

I've googled and I'm guessing she's used the Martha Stewart Rainbow Cake as the inspiration, but just done 4 layers. Do people think this is right? Or is there something else I should be looking for?

Fondant is somewhat terrifying but I figure if I can have a baby I can deal with fondant.

    I'd say it is buttercream.

Fi - you can get this great white icing in a carton from a shop in Cheltenham called Merryday - super easy and stays white. Check out their website, worth a visit if you are down this way. xx

My Mum and Dad live in MOrdialloc and mum works at the Kingston Centre, which from memory is very close to Merryday.

What is the icing? Is it fondant or something else?

the outer looks like fondant to me
the stuff between layers could be a white butter cream or a white chocolate ganache.

It looks to be buttercream between the layers.

The Betty Crocker premade icing works well.

I'm making a rainbow cake for DD next week too! Im planning on either using buttercream or the Betty Crocker stuff, although the Merryday sounds amazing as well!! Might have to get DH to get some on his way home from work one night!

its either buttercream or dreamwhip. To get it that white you either need to buy the wiltons whitening agent or you can make your own using shortening. Dreamwhip is very yummy...tastes like icecream and most cake decorating shops have it. The outside of that cake looks like buttercream too, except for the green and blue which is fondant.

To me the pic looks like the middle is some kind of icing - dreamwhip or buttercream (although I have never managed to get it anywhere near white) and the outside is fondant. The carton stuff is fab but I have no idea what is in it, lol! Makes heaps and you can freeze part of the mix or do a heap of cakes - we have used it for bdays when we've had multiple cakes - so childcare/kids and family parties and it has gone a LONG way! Also the MS rainbow cake icing works well and turns out really well - just google the recipe it is easy to find. xx
