Our cat, not quite 2yo, has a cut/hole on his leg. It's either a dog bite or an accident from climbing trees.
We need to flush it out as it's caked in dirt and I assume it'll need some type of antiseptic.
I can grab some antiseptic from the pharmacy, as it worked well on our horse when he cut his face open.
DH is hesitant to use something like that on Titan, so is there anything else we can use?
My vet says the best antiseptic to use is salty water and to bath it several times a day. However, if it's a cat bite, it will more than likely be infected and possibly turn into an abscess which will be much harder to treat. So better getting it looked at earlier.
You can use an antiseptic like chlorhexidine or cetridine or betadine on your cat with no problems so check what you used on your horse. I would use betadine as a last antiseptic though - flush with one of the others or saline first. If it is a bite wound it really needs to be seen by a vet - firstly because it is likely to get infected quickly and potentially badly, secondly because dog bites can do a lot of damage to tissue that isn't always visible at the skin level. Hope this helps.
