I went 21 months between DS and VBAC. Could have even been 20 but was quite overdue. I have a feeling I has to be 18months apart for the birth centre.
I just have a question for you all.
My SIL had a beautiful baby 2 weeks ago via scheduled CS. Anyway, when I was visiting she mentioned that she would need to have another next time. I did mention that she could have a VBAC but she said the ob said that the scar wouldn't be strong enough if she had another in 3-4 years (I cant remember which she said). I'm not an expert by any means, but from things I've read about on here that doesn't seem right to me.....is it? Whats also making me question that statement is anoter friend (who also used the same ob and had an emergency CS) is having her second child soon, just over 2 years after her first, and she is hoping for a VBAC (which it seems the ob is happy to let her try).
So, purely for my interest sake (and possibly a bit of info up my sleeve for when my SIL has her second), is there a minimum amount of time you need to wait after a CS before attempting a vaginal birth and if so, how long?

My ob is totally fine about me attempting a VBAC there will be 2 years between births
Did she have any complications or a different type of incision? It does sound like an unusually long time.
sent from my watzamajig so may not make sense....
No idea then hun, sorry :/

Hi,
I think it depends on where you go/hospital policies etc. I had an 18 month gap between my first two and that was the minimum that the hospital would 'allow' for me to try VBAC. I even had a junior Dr try and tell me that 12 +6 = 17 months and that it would be 'disastrous' to try VBAC. I didn't listen to that one. Anyway, I think anything over 18 months or two years is usually accepted as fine. Some Dr's and Obs don't like VBAC at all and the gap in time won't change their mind.
I think the most important thing when trying for VBAC is to get a supportive team around you.
I ended up being put on a tight timeframe to get into labour (after ARM) and ended up with a second c/s. So if your SIL is keen, maybe get her to investigate who really supports it. With my third, I had to shop around to find somebody who would support VBA2C (a lot of hospitals and private Obs don't like this) and unfortunately ended up with pre-eclampsia and never got to attempt VBA2C, but it was so nice not to be pressured into an elect c.s!
I understand this is quite an old thread, but thought I'd add my 2c worth! From what I've read your c-section scar is just like any other wound, it does all the healing it's going to in the first few weeks.
It pays to "shop around" to find someone who will support your own wishes![]()

I know this is an old thread but I thought it may be useful to contribute.
I had an emergency c/s. My OB told me I could have a VBAC but he recommended 18 months between births. He is a wonderful doctor and I felt safe with him knowing he wouldn't take any unnecessary risks. He said having a VBAC before 18 months wouldn't be a disaster and that he would just make sure we had a bigger support team around us just in case. I couldn't ask for more than that.
My babies are scheduled to be 18 months and two weeks apart. I'm hoping for a VBAC but as long as my baby arrives safely I really don't mind he/she arrives.
I know this is an old thread, but only 15months in between mine. Public system is happy for me to VBAC. The time has only been mentioned once by a Dr and I just didn't listen as they wanted me to C/S. Don't see how 3 months will be here or there.
4 Years does sound like a really long time, unless she had the up and down cut not the bikini cut? As I know the up and down cut isn't as strong if they have done that inside as well.
