DD 4.5 months has been happily exclusively BFing for pretty much all her life and is suddenly now taking 3-4 suck/swallows, unlatching and crying, then repeating this process 2-3 times. Most of the time it's only on the first breast (doesn't matter which) and then she just resumes as normal on the second one, but sometimes it'll be both.
She recently got a Rhino brace for hip dysplasia so its possible that has affected it, but I'm vague about whether or not this was happening before the brace. Any other causes?
Frustration? DD used to do this around AF time as it affected letdown etc. eithe that or she may be uncomfortable so gets frustrated she can't get comfy when feeding.
the brace does make feeding difficult - it;s hard to snuggle baby up close enough to the breast. if they are further away they have to exert more suction to keep nipple in the right place in their mouth. (Think some-one is holding a string of spaghetti just out of your reach and you are desperate to reach it.
Has she been well otherwise? Does she have a cold oe anything (it's that time of the year) if she has a blocked nose she will need to come off to breather - and it might be 'more blocked (nostrils take it in turns to be blocked often)
Try to be patient, and feed her frequently. If swapping sides helps , then do that.
DS1 did this for about 2 weeks, during and just after a wonderweek ... nothing to indicating the start of it or the end of it ... just started, freaked me out and upset me for about 2 weeks during it, then stopped again ...
