Question Liquid Iron - advice and experenices please

I have had low iron with this and my 2nd pregnancy. (I don't remember how low the result was - GP tested me at 7 weeks)

However, the iron tablets from the chemist (proper ones not the lower doses "blackmores" type ones) make me feel nauseous. I try to remember to take them at night, but to be honest, I'm pretty bad at that as I take my other vitamins and medicine in the morning. I'm also trying to have red meat, green veg, nuts and pulses too.

So, tell me about liquid iron. Is it as good? Does it have side effects? Where from and how much should I pay for it? Did it work for you?

Liquid iron is wonderful and your body ingests it alot quicker than tablet form. There are a few types around but the latest one we have tried is the one in separate sachets and you just add it to a bit of juice. The other one we have used had beetroot in it as beetroot is good for boosting your iron. I think it had a name like Feroforce and another one had a name like Boost
Both DD's have used this one and had no side effects but certainly felt better very quickly.
The price of the sachets was not bad either.

I found spatone to be the best for me. Good luck.

Yes it s more expensive but has no side affects like the tablets. I am using spatone at the moment because of the form the iron is in (my ferritin levels were low but my iron was high), but the floradix is good too only thing I found with floradix is that it's a measured dose that was to be taken 30 mins before eating and I found it inconvenient.

One of the spatone packs is the pregnancy pack which includes multi-vitamins.

Just updating - I ended up getting some floradix as it seemed the most cost-effective. I am not good at remembering to take it - but I am feeling okay energy wise (aside from having a 3 week cold). The healthfood shop lady tried to sell me spiralina (sp?) as well but I didn't get it.

To help you remember to take it put, a note somewhere where it will be in your face eg. on the fridge, beside the tea, coffee

It is the only way I remember to take things

Liquid tonics do tend to be more easily absorbed but its important to know how much iron you are needing to take. Most herbal formulas are too low in iron to assist in chronic deficiencies. I've been aneamic on and off for 25 years and feel like I've taken them all!! I currently am low in iron and need to take 105mg or iron per day so I take the chemist one called Fero-Gradumet (I think) which has 105 mg of elemental iron. To put it into perspective, the blackmores iron supplement has 5mg. The chemisty ones can give you constipation so I take it with metamucil every day.
