Period Pain - New to me

Should I be concerned that I can now feel what people talk about when they refer to labour being like period pains? I got AF late last night & it has been reasonably heavy (still with in normal I think) today but the weird thing is, in all my life I never felt my uterus contract during my period. But today I have experienced what I assume is my uterus contracting...Thats normal right?

I might be wrong but I believe that getting period pains, if you are an adult who has never had them before, is something that should be checked out by a Dr.

hmmm ok, thanks.. I need to go anyway I think. I have excessive breast tissue in my arm pit & that is causing some pain also. But I think thats hormonal.. It flared up (a sore little hard lump) when I would have been ovulating & now again that AF has arrived. Although this time Im suspicious its a blocked duct

I had period pain before and after kids but I wanted to acknowledge that the contraction thing is certainly something I find I feel with period pain specifically since having my kids. I find (and this is WAY TMI, sorry) that since having babies I am more prone to clots. Not every cycle, but most, I will have one episode of severe pain (usually on day 2 or 3) where I feel an intense "contraction"-type pain and this will result in loads of blood and a clot. Then it settles down for the rest of the cycle.
I think if you are worried it's never harmful to discuss with a doctor but that feeling sounds normal to me, personally.

Thanks for that Snacks. I have not felt the same contractions today but during the night my flow was really heavy. So maybe it was something like you have described. AF sucks

After I had dd I had my tubes tied. Less then a year later my periods became incredibly heavy and I developed cramps. Never before had I had any period symptom but bleeding The cramps were terrible, curled on the couch with a hot water bottle and popping painkillers every 4 hours

Last year I finally mentioned it to a dr and he put my on cyklokapron. My bleeding is heaps less and I have gone from 8 or more as to 3-5 days. I don't need panadol anymore and only indication I have that my period is coming is a minor back ache the day it arrives. I also had blood tests to check my hormone levels and they came back all good
