I've learnt a few languages over the year but I have always done it in a classroom environment. At the moment that's just not possible. DH's work schedule is such that I can't rely on himm to be able to be home to look after the boys so I can go to class.
Has anyone ever learnt a language online or using the CD's or any other distance education method? Did it work for you or not? How did you go with motivation? For me being part of a class helps with motivation. I don't like letting my teachers down, I'm competitive so I don't like falling behind my classmates and the routine of going to class helps me to study and practice my vocab, grammar etc.
Last year I tried learning Spanish before going on a holiday. I copied CDs to itunes and would listen whilst exercising. I was the crazy lady walking around the streets plugged in, trying to book restaurant reservations in Spanish. I find setting deadlines helps. I wanted to get through so many modules in x amount of time.
Alternatively, I recently found a lady who teaches Italian via Skype conference calls. I imagine she's in a beachfront villa on the Mediterranean by day, teaching people around the globe Italian by night....
I also prefer a classroom learning environment, but podcasts, cds or online versions are still doable.
I like learning through DVDs etc. If you have an ipod touch or ipad you can download some apps. I like the flashcards and games. I think I actually learn a bit better than through a class.
