My lil guy is 7 months old & exclusively breast feed. He has just started tasting of solids due to being 6 weeks prem.
For the past three months when I get my period the first two days are hell! I have an amazingly happy baby who turns into this unsettled baby who wakes sometimes hourly but as a max two hourly & cry's for milk. Even during the day he is unsettled. Does this happen to anyone else??
I started fenugreek today & made some lactation cookies to see if that helps as I think my supply dips.
I found my supply would drop a bit during my period as well. My son would be crankier during those days. Gosh I hope AF doesn't come back for a long time because I'm not sure how all three kids would cope with a diminished supply.
I hope the fenugreek and lactation cookies help. You can also try blessed thistle (I take it in a tablet that also has the fenugreek in it) and I think I've heard of people taking alfalfa tablets as well.
It can happen to lots of people - not so much that supply changes but speed of let down can change and taste can change. If you have to can you express some non-period milk and use a bit of that to buy you some sleep?
When my DS was little and BF'ing, I'd always know my period was coming by his change in feeding...not sure what it was that was different, but he seemed to not want to feed as much and 2 days later, AF would arrive... and then everything would go back to normal by day 2 of AF.
