Thinking about doing an online counselling course, can be done in your own time which appeals to me. Though I'm still not 100%.. I'll have to look around and see how much work is out there for counsellors first.
I love seeing who is starting study and what they are studying.... So share!
If you are applying to study- where and what are you wanting to do?

I'm thinking about doing my Masters in Education (Teacher Librarian) , and starting in the November summer semester. It's a coursework masters-8 subjects via distance education. I have never studies with kids/family so I'm not sure how I'll manage? I will attempt two subjects first semester, but I also have the option of doing one at a time. I'll be on maternity leave until the end of Janurary and DS2 starts daycare in Novemeber with DS1, so technically I'll have a few child free days. I will be working 3 days in 2013.
Lady_neon, I'm sure counseling is a bit of a growth industry!
Ooo Both sound interesting.
Amaunet, you will be fine studying with kids. Lots of us do it. I had 3 when I started, youngest was 1.5yrs. It was a good challenge, but I love the study element of my life.
I am thinking of studying nursing through open uni (Uni SA) part time. This will mean I'll probably be 40 before I finish! But I'll hopefully have a good 20 years of work left in me at that stageStill just tossing up though. Not sure if I can afford the $, time & brain power!
yep, bach of teaching (early childhood)! whilst working full time and mum to a 33mth old as well as a wife. Not sure how its all going to go.
considering doing another couple of subjects towards my Masters of Law.
i was going to start my Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy next year but the lady on the phone talked me into starting it this year...my two are 2 and 3...weekends is when i get most of my study done and early morning when i can creep out of bed with out waking any one up!
I will continue with my Masters of Social Work next year. 2 years down, 2 to go. (part time)
My friend is doing nursing through SA. The only thing is that she had to go to Adelaide to do her placements, as they didn't place her here in Victoria.
I'll be continuing my Bachelor of Law. Finished full time work earlier this month and just waiting for bubs to arrive then get back into it.
Hello, and this is my first post.
I have applied to do a postgraduate diploma in midwifery. I am a RN, but have wanted to study mid for about 8 years now.
I have an interview at the Women's in Melbourne in a few weeks, have to find a clinical place and apply to uni.
I want to work towards my criminology and criminal justice degree that I started in England but I need my permanent residency first so I'm not paying stupidly large fees.
Hurry up DIAC!!
that sounds interesting Ms_Fi! what 'work' will you undertake with the degree? police?
I've just started an Adv Dip in Graphic Design and Advertising! haven't studied since I spent a year at university straight after school (pulled out after 9 months for various reasons). Am very fortunate as I was able to secure funding through a support scheme for defence partners! Kids to go day care one day a week and I do a couple of hours each night. Am so pumped about it!!! week one down
It's a 3 year course but I hope to have my own home business set up by this time next year
nice thread![]()
I know I'm reviving an old thread here but I am new so have been reading through a heap!!
I am pregnant with my first, due March 2013 and I feel like this pregnancy has given me so much clarity about what I want to be when I grow up!! I am thinking of going back to do my grad dip ed in secondary. I worked full time and studied part time for a Masters which took two years so I know I can buckle down and do these things- but now I have a 13 yo step son living with us full time, I have a new born due in March, I am still working full time and my husband works away a lot. So... how manageable is it to study with a newborn and a teenager?
I feel like I could buy the books now and study hard now before bubs is due. Then once bub comes along she will sleep peacefully in a hug a bub through lectures and tutes and I can take advantage of maternity leave, plus I will be a little bit ahead of myself! Am I being totally crazy here? Or would I be better off waiting until second semester to enrol, because bub is due in the third week of uni!! Or better off waiting until 2014 to start full time?
I feel like I would like to have the three months just to relish in having a lovely new baby but I really am so sick of my current job that two years feels like such a long time to have a career change. Perhaps the hormones are making me rush things...
Is it doable- newborn & study & work?
just finishing my cert2 in animal studies and next year starting my cert3 in captive animals. when i started my kiddies were 21 and 5 months and when i finish they will be 4 and 3also just started workplacement at our local 'zoo' sooooo much fun. they say you should never work with children or animals but im doing both and loving every second of it
Babies do a lot more than sleep - and learning how to BF can take a while. Also, why assume that you are allowed to take a baby into a lecture or seminars? My lecturers would have not been happy, nor many of my classmates - it's worth checking, but you may not be allowed to bring baby with you. What happens when the baby does a huge poo that covers baby, carrier and a 5m blast radius?
By all means buy related books and do some reading, find out what essays you will need to do and get cracking with those - but don't take a baby to a lecture. Please. FWIW, Liebling has attended University with me: on a field trip where children were allowed (nightmare for me, learnt very little other than Liebling knew how to get out of his reins, doesn't sleep on transport like other children and that he really likes dinosaurs - but to be fair, all the parents who had brought children hung around together so we could help each other out) and, by prior arrangement, on the last day of the year (he was a bit of a distraction and many people chose to just stay away from us, so not overly social, and I wasn't able to pay full attention to the lecture, despite Liebling behaving excellently and playing quietly through the lecture - many of the physics people were really into his toys, so Liebling distracted them too). I didn't take him again.
