A good first try if you don't want to spend too much money is the Garnier BB cream. Does what a BB cream should, decent price (I think $12) and is readily available. I find it a little greasy for my skin, but it might be perfect for yours. Another drug store brand that's alright is the Loreal range of primers. They do have glitter in them though, I find it's a good night primer. I have the green one ATM (reduce redness) but the pink is the best.

I love the Benefit primer. Really nice finish. So it really depends what you're after.

I live the Garnier one too and use it under foundation if I want a heavier cover! They have just brought out an oil free one PZ that might suit you better?

What the heck is BB cream? (I won't divulge how old I am or how I came to be this age without understanding why makeup never seems to stick to my face quite right...)

I have no idea what BB cream is either, but I bought the Garnier one based on it's claims (sad I know) and I have dry skin. It's terrible. I react and get psoritic patches every time I try to wear it. I do react to lots of stuff but this one is serious.

It is my understanding that a BB cream is like a super-tinted moisturiser. And a primer is what you put under your foundation to get longer wear out of you foundation..
I can't see the BB cream giving me enough coverage, but i am going to try it in summer when you can't do a full face of foundation.

BB is blemish balm! It's a thin moisturising veil with SPF, tints to suit your tone and evens it out. Ive never been big on foundation so I love it .I don't need much cover though so I'm not sure how it works on very uneven or blemished skin.

Primers are great if you want your makeup to go on smoothly and stay put. For my makeup clients with dry skin I use a Laura Mercier one, it's lovely; for brides I use Smashbox as it has good staying power. Korres (available from Kit Cosmetics) has a nice one with no silicone, parabens etc if you have sensitive skin.

To be honest I think BB creams are over-hyped. You'd be better off getting a good tinted moisturiser I reckon. Again Laura Mercier ones are nice (exxy though), Benefit's You Rebel, Aveda (LOVE) and on the budget side there's a Revlon one I like but can't remember the name...

With regard to sun protection, would also suggest a product that has broad spectrum SPF or using a separate cream underneath any kind of base; the SPF in moisturisers, foundations etc doesn't really cut the mustard for our climate. Invisible Zinc Tinted Daywear is a good multi-tasker.

Hmmm, I use foundation primarily because I am so pasty and white. So I need some colour to make me look less 'dead' I guess the BB cream would be good for that....

    . Hydrates for 24hrs
    2. Evens tone
    3. Corrects blemishes
    4. Boosts healthy glow
    5. UV Protection SPF 15
From their website - I agree about the SPF - I use the Nivea light veil 30+ it's great, not greasy and I can wear it under the bb cream.

Hiya - Smashbox is available at Kit Cosmetics and Mecca Cosmetica, or online. Laura Mercier counters are in DJs and Myer, or Adore Beauty online. I suggest trying them out in person and then ordering them either online here or from a US/UK website as they'll be way cheaper!
