I have all the other items she needs in my own make up, but being a natural one (Nude by Nature), I can't get a red lipstick..
So what you do recommend. It needs to be fire-engine red. The dancing school is using Avon for the orders, but wanting to know if there are any others anyone can recommend..
(When I got married, I had one that stayed on really well, I only topped up twice, once before the professional photos and again, after dinner but I am not really into make up and that was 9 yrs ago, so I can't remember)..
MAC has two great colours to check out - Russian Red and Ruby Woo. The first is more orange-red, Ruby Woo is a classic blue red. Both are matte so have good staying power.
Revlon has some good long-last reds but they can be drying.
To help red last the distance on clients I:
- outline and fill in with lip liner
- apply a layer of lipstick with a brush, pressing into all the little lip crevices. Blot well. This creates a good stain, like an undercoat.
- apply another layer, blot, one more layer.
I have 50 shades of red. MAC is one I don't have so I can't comment.
My faves are a Nutrametics red, Anna Sui red (can't get this anymore), Rouge by YSL and a red by Rimmel.
The cheaper brands (Rimmel and Nutrametics) have a higher pigment content, so the colours have more pop factor, but the more expensive brands like YSL (and I can only assume MAC) have more moisturising properties but the colours don't stay as well. The colour you are after is a blue red, as oppose to orange red or pink red. Make sure you don't go with the latter two. You can get laquers that go over the top, but my personal favourite trick is to use a a lip tint (you can get them in red now and they are easy to apply as they are like a texta) and then use a red lipstick of your choice to go overtop. I find this is the best way to keep cover without needing excessive applications. And having experienced dance concerts and make up for little ones, the less you have to do the easier on them and you it is I still cringe at the little girls all begging not to have mascara. We did a run through where we would put on the makeup as a test run, see how easy it was to apply, how it lasted etc. Don't leave it till the last minute or you'll be tearing your hear out and there will be tears, and not just hers.
I hope it all goes well. It seems like so long ago that my big girl was in dance concerts! SOOO cute
I searched high and low and on my skin tone the Australis Cha Cha suits me, I also use it on top of Benefit Benetint (thanks Rouge!) as a great base to make it last! You could use the Benetint layered as well as it's a stain and then gloss on top! I got my pocket tube of Benetint on ebay for around $16.
Thanks for the suggestions and advice on blue red.
Will go to the shops this week sometime.
I had thought of just doing the lip liner and gloss, but wasn't sure if it would work..
Rouge, don't think dd will complain about lots of practice before hand.. When I was just checking the color of eye shadow and blush, she couldn't get enough..
This was hard for me to come and answer, as I really can't wear red lips, but love them. The Natio red lippy is really lovely, Myer and some chemists stock it. It feels nice on, is really bright, and lasts forever. I converted my MIL and SIL the first time they tried it.
