Bleeding 5 days post embryo transfer

    Hi

I am wondering if anyone has had heavy bleeding with clots like a period 5 days post 5day old transfer? My period is not due for another week. It started with spotting day 4 then full on this morning. I have rung the clinic and they have changed my progesterone from crinone gel to pessaries 3 times a day and I had to get hormone levels checked tomorrow. I am assuming its a failed cycle though.
    Thanks

Hi Beau, welcome to BB. Sadly I can't answer your question, it will really depend on what the clinic results come back with. Join in with the LTTTC with AC gals - I was there when doing my IUI & IVF cycles and they are a great support.

Beau, I'm sorry to hear of the bleeding. Was it a fresh (ie stim) cycle or frozen? With a stim cycle, it's possible for AF to show up that early (10dpo) in spite of the progesterone. If they determine that it is indeed AF, I'd be asking for more luteal support next time. I need to use 3x crinone (or 200mg pessaries) along with hcg booster shots to get a decent LP length in a stim cycle. My clinic's normal routine is 2x crinone per day and that wasn't enough for me. It took until my 3rd stim cycle to work out what I needed. I used high doses of FSH (up to 450iu) for my stim cycles and I think it put too much strain on my ovaries, so they needed the extra support after transfer.

Thanks for all your thoughts. The clinic has come back to me saying my hcg is negative (as expected as too ealry) but my progesterone level is fine so they are not really sure what is happening. I have been told to continue to pesseries 3 times a day until the 9th October (another week) then have more bloods done. This is my first ivf cycle so it was a stimulated cycle. I was only on 150mg of gonal-f for 3 days & then I dropped to 100mg for the following days as I had aweful bloating & stomach cramps at day 6 after starting the orgalutran. They collected 19 eggs. 2 immature. 17 were fertilised icsc. By day 3 I had 12 still going well and day 5/6 I had 8. Only one was transferred so I have 7 in the freezer for future. I am 33 with male infertility issue. I guess all I can do now is wait another week. Am just hoping I don't get another period in a week after stopping the progesterone. I don't have much hope as have now bleed heavily for 2 full days. I will definitely be asking for more hormone level checks next time. Perhaps it's my ovaries not coping like juniper76. There were still very enlarged at transfer. I will also join LTTTC/AC.
    Thanks

Question for you re bleeding post embryo transfer

    Hi Beau30

I know this is an old post but the same thing is happening after my embryo transfer. I've been bleeding since 4 days past my transfer and it's finally finished today at 9 days past transfer. I'm having a blood test tomorrow but won't get results until next Wednesday due to the public holiday. So... Being impatient I took a hpt expecting it to come up negative and put my mind at rest however it came up positive. Did u ever take a hpt test when you were bleeding? I'm thinking maybe it was a chemical pregnancy and that's why I have hcg positive as I'm not on any drugs that would give me a false positive. Anyway, would love a response! Thank you in advance.

    Hi Mummy94

Sorry I never took a hpt - I continued bleeding for 2 full weeks though. Clinic changed my progesterone from crinone to pesseries (which were awful for me) & made me continue on them & extended my bt for another few days after when I should have been. Fs never really found a reason as to why it happened. My bt of course was negative. I unfortunately am still trying had my second fet on thurs this week. Fingers crossed this one works. Are you on pregsterone or pregnyl? There may be some hcg left from your trigger shot or pregynl if you are taking it. Good luck with your bt tomorrow. That's very weird not being able to get result until Wednesday. You poor love I feel for you! Xx

Thank you for your reply! I'm on progynova and progesterone pessaries so shouldn't have any hcg from any of the drugs I've been on. I guess I'll just have to sit tight and wait. The bleeding is just so strange as it was heavy like a period. I'm preparing myself for the news either way. The good news for you is that FET cycles do work, I have a little boy who's almost one and he's the best thing that's ever happened. It definitely is worth all the heartache and tears going through treatment!! I got pregnant when I finally relaxed about it and was very patient. I really hope 2013 brings you a beautiful pregnancy!! Thanks Beau. I actually got a positive test to my surprise! I am still not 100% confident as I've had some random spotting in the mornings but am hoping and praying it sticks. Just thinking positively now! How are you going with your FET?

That is fantastic news!!! Congratulations!!! It definitely is all worth it when you have that baby in your arms. I'm still spotting every second day or so but my hcg levels have increased as they're meant too from last week. Just taking it day by day and having my pregnancy tracking blood test each Monday, can't wait for next Monday's as the spotting worries me. I wish I could relax more but it's hard when you get pregnant this way. Take care of yourself x

Re: Bleeding 5 days post embryo transfer

Hi ladies. Just had my 5tth ivf embryo transfer 6 days ago and I've started bleeding fresh. So worried about this. Have appt with ivf dr on mon and blood test to see if pregnant on wed. Nothing was said about increasing my 2 per dsy crinone. Any suggestions or advice. Really freaking out and partner doesn't understand what I'm going through :'( Thank you.

Hi Hopeful Mum, I had forgotten about the start of my pregnancy until you replied to this. I have a 15 month old daughter now! I had heavy bleeding like a period and thought it was all over however I did get a positive result. It wasn't until my 12 week scan that I found out I had a blood clot in the uterus (probably when embryo attached) which was not harmful to bub but I bled on and off until about 16 weeks when it all cleared. So my advice would be not to give up until you have that pregnancy test. There are so many strange things that can happen. Try keep yourself busy to take your mind off of it (I know that's hard!). You will eventually have a baby in your arms and it's worth all the persistence, emotional roller coaster and hard work xx

Re: Bleeding 5 days post embryo transfer

    Hi Hopeful mum.

Try to keep busy Hun and try not to stress. I know that's easier said than done. I have a beautiful 7 month old baby girl from my 6th transfer. I did have bleeding with her for a night and I thought it was all over and didn't even go for my blood test and didn't want to bad news again. Once the bleeding stopped for a few days I decided I should go get a blood test and was so amazed I had a huge hcg level. I only used crinone the first time I did ivf as I hated it so much I asked for hcg injections instead - my dr was happy for me to do that.

I have also heard of other success stories with bleeding so try to stay positive.

Have you joined the long term trying to conceive forum? There is a bunch of wonderful ladies there who are so knowledgable and are all trying to conceive. I found it so helpful as it's somewhere where I could ask questions, support others and have support from others in similar situations. My partner was useless through our journey.

Let us know how you go. Rest up xx

Re: Bleeding 5 days post embryo transfer

Thank you beau30 and mummy94. Your comments are giving me more hope than I had :-) I don't have the normal sort of cramping leading up to a period. Booked to see fertility dr mon arvo so hopefully he may have some news. I started taking crinone 3 times now as I am hoping that may also give my embryos a chance. 2 went in from 8 collected, none frozen this time. Only 1 frozen at all, from previous cycle. Will keep posted of what happens. May be in need of some understanding support :-( Praying that it's all great news this Wednesday at the blood test. Thank you again.
