    Emotional but dont know why

    Hi All,
I gave birth a month ago and all was well not traumatic, the healing was great too, DH has been fantastic. However, I am having waves of emotions that hit me, especially when I'm breastfeeding. I dont know how to process the emotions but it is usually sadness or being overwhelmed ( I really dont know what it is)

I don't cry and nothing in my life is sad but not sure if it is just hormones settling down or am I heading down a dark path?

    Is this normal?

Sorry if I am not explaining myself well as I don't even know what I am feeling.

    Thanks in advance.

you say it happens when you bf. does it happen with let down? does it come and go or is it always there? is it only when you bf?

your hormones will still be a little crazy for the first 6 or so weeks after giving birth. so might just be as simple as stuff still balancing out. might not. a start is to work out exactly when you get the feelings and how long they last for etc

yes i think it is during let down. I shall monitor it as to when. All I know it is comes in waves, like comes and goes, it doesnt stay for long.

I found the website you are talking about and that describes exactly what I am feeling!! Didn't realise there was an actual term for it!

"Dysphoria is defined as an unpleasant or uncomfortable mood, such as sadness, depressed mood, anxiety, irritability, or restlessness"

=) I didn't know about it too until I accidently came across it. I thought what I was feeling was just me getting use to being a mum. but ive been experiencing it for the last 4 months. some people have found that it fades but mine hasnt yet. the only thing I have found that 'works' is taking a deep breath and just letting it wash over me, and letting it pass. it helps that i know what it is and when to expect it. the worst is when I'm not feeding and get letdown cause Im not expecting it (only happened a couple of times).

It sucks your experiencing it to, but im a little happy there is someone else out there too that i can talk to =) I started a post about it a few months back. let me know how you go. *hugs*

Oh thank you so soo much now that I know what it is as I thought I was starting to get PND to be honest with you. But I realised it usually happened when I breastfed which was why i thought it was hormones.

I also experience it sometimes when Im not BF but it could be like what you said. I also have let downs in between breastfeeds.
