An incredible story about my bird

This is a story about George, my pet galah. A crazy incredible story!
About 10 years ago I was getting ready for work one day when I heard a scratching/tapping noise coming from my parents room. It was only me and my bf at the time home and he was in the room with me. I ignored it for a while, but it just kept happening so I had to go check it out. I went to my parents ensuite and there was a bird sitting on the window sill. It was a galah. It still took me a minute to realise it was the galah making the noise and it was tapping on the window. I opened the window and the galah walked inside! not only that it said "hello" to me. After a bit of coaxing and talking to it, he let me pet him. (which resulted in me being late to work..) because I was running late my bf stayed back and looked after the bird until we could work out what to do with him. over the next few days it was clear this bird was a hand raised galah, he spoke, danced, and enjoyed nothing more than having the back of his head scratched. I put word out of the radio, and spoke to the neighbours to find out where he was from cause he was obviously someones pet. No one claimed him so after a few weeks, I claimed me as his own. We then named him George, because that was one of the words he could say.

I loved George. Even though I moved away from home and he stayed at my parents place, he was still my bird. He would talk, sometimes just a single word like 'hello' or 'george' or 'scratch', sometimes, he would string off a sentence that I have no idea what he was saying, but he would just be muttering away to himself. He would sit on my shoulder and snuggle into my hair. he would dance and mosh. and he would put his head down and beg for a 'scratch', that was his favourite thing, getting the back of his head scratched and the wax removed from his feathers. He would even start picking his feet when he was annoyed with me, if I was ignoring him or not doing what he wanted!

We had no idea how old he was, but he was aging, you could see it in his eyes that he was old. and sadly in 2010 he passed away from old age =(.

now here is the incredible bit...or should I say MORE incredible bit.

The other week my brother sent me a message saying 'I have to tell you a story about George!!'. He wouldn't tell me over the phone despite my begging. My brother is currently spending a few days with us so of course I got him to tell me!. My brother lives in Sydney. He was casually chatting to his housemates friend, and this friend was telling them all about his pet bird. a galah they had found down by the creek one day as a baby. They took it to the vet, who told them how to look after it, and said when it can fly let if free. So they did. But it never left them. despite them trying numerous times to get the bird go, it always came home. This bird was George! he lived with this guy for about 10 years. Until one day, he left and never came back =(. thats when he left to come to me =). Also, this fella was from a town 80km away from my parents house.

I'm so glad I got to hear George's story before he came to me. I think it is amazing that my brother met the guy!!
