A letter to baby

My darling child,

It's hard to believe it has been a year since we had to say goodbye, all too soon. One year ago I was trying to comprehend this turn of events. Your daddy and I conceived you in love and were so excited when we found out you were going to be joining our little family. But it wasn't God's plan. He had other things in mind for you, precious one.

My heart broke when we found out God had called you home. It didn't seem fair. There was so much I was looking forward to... So many things we wanted to show you, to teach you, to share with you. And so much we would miss. What would you look like? What would make you smile? Who would make you laugh? Would you be a crazy little chatterbox of a bossy boots like your big sister, or a cheeky determined little monkey like your big brother?

You would be around five months old today. We'd be thinking about solids and you might be trying to get mobile. Every time I look at gorgeous Alisha I think of you. That's where you would be. Would you be quick to find your feet, like your brother? Or slower to start, like big sis?

We won't know any of this... Not for a long while.

Until we meet, my sweet babe, know that mummy loves you and thinks of you often. Even tonight, as I cradle your sleeping baby brother, just three weeks old, I cry for you. My arms are full, and I thank God for the blessing of this little baby. But my heart still aches for you.

For now, I dry my tears. I will keep on. But one day, I will touch your sweet face, stroke your beautiful hair and hold you close. One day.
