Cot matress in perfect condition, does it have to be replaced?
Our cot matress from DS will be 4 yeats old by the time its needed.
It is still in perfect condition. He always slept on the pvc side.
Do we really need to replace it?
We can if we have to, it just seems like such a waste.
Couldnt I get it cleaned or something instead?
We had the same situation - cot mattress for 4 years. We ended up getting a new one. It felt like a waste but I was concerned about dust and things. I guess we could have got it cleaned but then I was concerned about the chemicals. I'm still concerned about the chemicals in a new mattress though so it seems a little lose-lose lol. We might just co-sleep anyway though.
Yeah, I figure we'll probably cosleep most of the time too, I just want somewhere to put Bub for day sleeps if Im not wearing them and some part of the night time so I can have a little space occasionally.
Good point about the cleaning chemicals... I wonder if steam cleaning (as in just steam) would be enough...
I think it would be fine... the way I would look at it is... if I co-sleep would I change my bed mattress? If yes then change the cot also, if no then I think the existing cot mattress would be fine - if you have stored it appropriately and it is in great condition as you say then I say use it.
Ill have to have a look for those, never seen them before!
Its just been floating around our bedroom since we graduated DS to a bed a month or 2 ago.. and before that he was sleeping on it on the floor..
Mm now Im thinking maybe it should be replaced. But then, if I have it cleaned...
Argh! I dont know. Lol
I would use it. If you're concerned about dust etc give it a good vacuum, sit it in the sun on a few warm sunny days or even hire a steam cleaner and clean it but I really don't think a 4yo mattress poses a problem.
How old are the mattresses you guys sleep on? Mine is over 4 years old.

I was planning on using DD's one for DD2 It's only 18 months old, and DD has only slept on it for maybe half that time. We were just planning on steam cleaning it.
I used DS's mattress for DD. It has a removable cover so I washed that and put it back on. It is coming up to 4 years old now. If I had another, I'd probably use it again too. We bought the cot second hand but bought the mattress new for DS. It didn't even occur to me to buy DD a new mattress when the one we had was perfectly good.
I was planning on using Moo's mattress for Buster...put it outside to catch some sun and we had a very heavy and unexpected downpour! So ended up buying a new one
Re: Cot matress in perfect condition, does it have to be replaced?
I didn't even think about it, lol. I used the same one for both. Seems weird to get a new one every time. I don't change my mattress that often and they sleep on it. I wouldn't worry about it.
Pretty sure recommendations say its ok to use the same mattress for siblings. Its second hand mattresses you aren't sure of the history of, I think you shouldn't use.
You're bub will likely be on the PVC side as well yeah?
