Pelvic floor - a bit icky

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation to me. I'm 8/9 weeks post birth. Had a normal vaginal birth, no stitches, tears, grazing or anything. Did still have some discharge around 6 week check and was given antibiotics by obstetrician to be sure there was no infection.
My pelvic floor muscles seem to have been ok. No leaking when running/coughing etc. and I was going along fine. Then on Sunday night I noticed some leaking. All day Monday I had to wear a pad and it was as if I had no control at all. It was soaked. All week now I have had leaking and just haven't been able to use my pelvic floor muscles properly. Any ideas? Can they just stop working with no prior issues? Seems weird and I haven't been to dr. Just waiting and hoping it will go away if I stick my head in the sand
Any ideas, or have any of you experience anything similar with no particular cause?

No experience hun, but I would be trying to see at least your gp, if not obs asap. Have you been constipated or coughing or sneezing heaps? I can't think of a reason why you would be suddenly leaking.

Yes, go and see your obs asap. You need to get checked out.

Thanks ladies. I guess I'm just concerned he'll say, we'll you've had five kids what do you expect. But honestly, all was fine until a few days ago. It's bizarre - just hope it's something that can be fixed!

It is the fact that your control deteriorated so suddenly that makes it more of a concern. It could be an infection starting up, or a number of other things which cause a sudden loss of bladder control. You should make it really clear when you see someone that it was fine until a few days ago, and don't be fobbed off with 'normal after 5 kids.'

I had thought maybe an infection too. No other signs though. Except being a moody cow - does that count? Probably caused by a couple of the five kids though so can't be helped 😊

If you are still seeing dr A as your ob/gyno, don't go and see him for this problem because all he will recommend is a hysterectomy and the birch sling op - afterall you've had 5 kids so you don't need your uterus anymore. There is a contenence nurse/physio that works out of the forrest centre and I'd be dealing with her as opposed to a surgeon (dr A) as this is their area of speciality, whereas a surgeon will only want to do a surgical option. But as you said, you are only a few months post partum after having 5 kids. I would probably just work on pelvic floor exercises (squats/kegels etc) first and see a physio.
