Has anyone gone to a Caesarean Birth information session?

    Hey Ladies

Just wondering if anyone has been to one of these classes? I have been given a pamphlet from Mater Mothers (where I will be having bub) that tells me about a course that DH and I can attend that runs through information about the birthing process, recovery and then managing baby at home.

Just wanted to know if anyone has been and if you found it useful? It's 3 hours long and TBH I don't really want to sit through it if it's really just a basic run through of what happens etc. But if someone has been to one and found it was a good experience for them and their partner, I would be interested to hear your opinion.

    Thanks heaps

    xx

wow, 3 hrs - is that all just on c.s birth? I kinda wish I'd attended the hospitals' antenatal class which covered c/s, but I wasn't going to have one of those, lol. I was induced and then had an emerg c/s and was so exhausted that I didn't take on board anything the anaesthetist or obs told me beforehand. It was just a blur. Same thing second time around. I tried VBA2C last year and ended up with a 3rd c.s, but had 24 hrs notice beforehand as I got pre-eclampsia. umm, I'd recommend doing a class, but not sure why it's 3 hrs long?
If you do attend the class and they don't mention it - make sure you take high waisted undies so that they don't sit on the wound, afterwards. Make your phone calls to family and friends just before you take the pain meds in the first 24-48 hrs as I found that I was just whacked on them and couldn't hold a conversation for long. I was also pretty adament about weaning myself off the heavy pain meds as early as possible, cos I hated feeling like space cadet. I actually did really well with my third c.s and the obs and midwife even commented on it. I think it was the best out of the three b/c I wasn't totally exhausted going in.

Wishing you all the best for your birth!

I haven't done one, but I do recommend it. I did their antenatal classes, and the c/s bit was really informative. They went through not just what happens, but when and where and a fair bit of why. Also a full run through of who will be in the room and why, and all that other stuff that can vary between hospitals. And a really good list of what not to do.

A mum in my MG did one, I can ask her for more deets?

Oh, also, they have a YouTube video tour on it that you might find good. Between that and BB you'd probably have it covered, but for the lay-mama, I'd recommend it

Thanks girls I did do an Antenatal Class at MMH first time around and found it really good.

I have been on youtube watching a few vids and I seem to have a good feel for what is happening. I have also started a birth plan, in which one of my requests is for them to tell me what they are doing and when they are doing it so that I feel involved.

I also discussed the c/s with the Midwife at my appointment yesterday and they are very pro-mother choices ITMS? Like they want me to make it my experience and are happy to hear all requests from me before, during and afterwards.
