Hi as the title suggests I need a new recipe. My original one keeps failing.
    So please share away.

We have one we make sometimes with macadamia nuts in it. It's so yum! Google Matthew Hayden Choc Macadamia Pudding and it comes up several times on the first page

This has never failed for me, despite years of various different unpredictable ovens, different shaped cooking vessels, etc.

SELF-SAUCING CHOCOLATE PUDDING from Aunty Jackie

    Pudding:
    1 C SR flour
    ¾ C sugar
    1 Tbs cocoa
    or 2 Tbs chocolate Quik
    50g butter
    ½ C milk
    1 tsp vanilla essence

    Sauce:
    ¾ C brown sugar
1 Tbs cocoa / choc Quik
    2 C hot water

Heat butter and milk gently, add vanilla and stir into dry ingredients. Pour into a deep oven-proof dish. Sprinkle on brown sugar and cocoa, and pour hot water over gently. Cook in a moderate oven (180 degrees C) 40 – 45 minutes.

Pour the water over the back of a spoon and make sure the spoon is almost touching the surface of the pudding, that way you won’t drill a hole in it. The pudding starts of with liquid on top and finishes with chocolate sauce underneath.

Recipe from Cookery The Australian Way

    • 1 cup SR flour
    • 2 TSP cocoa
    • 1/4 Cup butter
    • 1/1 Cup Caster Sugar
    • 1 Egg Beaten
    • 1/1 cup walnuts chopped (I don't add these as my DH doesn't like nuts)
    • 1/2 Cup milk

    Sauce

    • 1/2 cup brown sugar
    • 1 tblsp cocoa
    • 1 1/4 cups boiling water

    1. Set oven at 175deg
    2. Sift flour and 2 tsp cocoa
    3. cream butter and caster sugar, Add egg and walnuts, mix well.
    4. Stir in flour and milk alternatively. Pour into pie dish.
    5. Make sauce: combine brown sugar and cocoa. Sprinkle on top of mixture in dish, and pour boiling water gently over this.
    6. Bake at 175deg for 40-45mns
    7. Dust lightly with icing sugar and serve with custard sauce or cream.

Enjoy, delicious and hasn't failed me yet. Add a little more boiling water to make it saucier.

No, there's no egg in it.

I just double checked that against the paper copy of the recipe I use to make it every time, and confirmed that.

Weirdly, it has never occurred to me that it is unusual not to have an egg.

If you can get a copy of the Women's Weekly Old Fashioned Favourites cook book, it has a fantastic self saucing pudding recipe

This is the identical recipe I use too and its awesome!!!!
My friend taught me how to make it,so I learned it from making it with her and didnt write it down - and every time I would make it at home I would hesitate and think, "Does it need an egg???" Until I finaly made it with her again and she didnt have any eggs, and yet we still made the awesome chocolate pudding!!! I still remember her sternly saying "You dont need eggs for chocolate pudding!!!"
I have made it with eggs though, - and it makes the pudding a little bit soggy!! But its still yummy!!!
We sometimes add some frozen fruit that has been soaking a yummy flavoured lequer or just serve it with cream and fresh berries!! Anyway you serve this pudding its yummy!!!
