hiya, so i have been offered a job from my old boss (i've been unemployed for 2 months as they had no funding to keep me, my normal job role is ICT) well... there's now some funding in the learning support program that the government is now running.
i have never done learning support before. it's 20hrs p/w SSO2 level ($60k per year)
it will only be 1 on 1 support with the same student for the whole year. the student will be in year 7, starting at the school next monday. for the first 5 years of his life he was abused in every way possible. he's a guardian of the minister.
i have always always wanted a job that feels like it matters, to help someone, guide them, supportive, life changing etc. i'm just worried. i'm having a meeting tomorrow to cover all my questions that i need answered before i accept.
i guess i'm just looking for anyone who has done learning support before? i have many friends at work who have all done it, they think i'll do fine. but i seem to always doubt myself.
i think it will be a very rewarding job. i have been told i just need to keep him focused, engaged, help with deadlines etc etc
It will also be very tough at times. Depending on how he is, there will be times when you just want to go off your tree - either at him, his situation or life in general. It is an extremely rewarding job, no doubt about that, but it is also very challenging at times. However I think you will be up for it 99% of the time these kids just need that one on one help and have someone think that they are worth helping.
