    Insurances...

Okay so which company has the cheapest insurance that's also has the best cover...

I am currently with a.a.m.i but its just gone up again and becoming a little too expensive - I have house and car and full coverage in both, but want to ring around to a few others and see if I can get it any cheaper...

Who do you go through? What is covered? And when it comes to claims how good are they?

youi gave us better rates for the car than aami - we also have contents insurance with them. Haven't needed to claim yet, though.

I am with commonwealth bank. They give me ace cover. Probably because I owe them an Incredible amount of money.

Building and contents ($150K contents and $300K house replacement) is $77 a month.

Loan protection is $108 a month

Life and TPD is about $155 a month.

Car is $102 a month (New Kluger).

Income protection is incredibly expensive but necessary. More than double all other insurances, put together.

My quotes at RACV, AAmi and a few other places were much more expensive. Plus when I pay them on my cba credit card I get frequent flyer points

We are sticking with AAMI for house and car. Every time I ring around to get better pricing, I just can't beat the price they give us. Also we have had a couple of no fault car claims with them (one a complete write off), that were dealt with really well. In fact the $$ we got back for the write off, got us a newer car than the one written off. Car premiums stay reasonable, but our home and contents did go up, mostly due to the additional flood cover (which we don't need, fire is our main concern)

With ANZ for Life, TPD and Accident coverage for me.

You can always try calling aami and asking them for a better price on the renewal. We did this last year when they tried to hike our car insurance up by $80 and they dropped it.
Also I find they are cheaper if you have more than one policy with them. We have home and contents, and one car, and when shopping for insurance for our new (second) car they were cheaper than anyone else I tried by at least $70.

Try Allianz RACQ and NRMA. Stay away from any of those like youi and stuff.

    We have everything with Shannon's.

All premiums are going to go up braise the cost of reinsurance is so high case of the natural disasters. It's unavoidable

AAMI here. They've always been great for price and the one time we've claimed. We have both cars, home and contents on our house and insurance on our investment property. Their service has always been fantastic, I'd highly recommend them.

I'm with aami and do love their service - they have been fantastic!

Just didn't expect the $15/month price hike in car comprehensive insurance, without notification!

I did a little quote using the commbank insurance and it was $30 cheaper a month for the same thing!

Ugh, I hate deciding which one to go with!

The dearer one that you know is great service or the cheaper one you haven't tried?

It varies alot depending on where you live - some companies are cheaper in one area and more expensive in others. The best way I find to get the best price is to google insurance companies and then do quotes with all of them online. Once you have a few to compare that you like, ring them and see what they will offer you (with a quote number).
I don't find brokers any use at all many of them only have a handful of companies they can deal with anyway. It is time consuming, but the best way to get a good price - do it yourself.

Speak to AAMI! I did that when ours increased and they reduced all of our policies without a second thought.

If you are happy with aami, I would speak to them. If you have a quote for a cheaper price, a lot of companies offer to match it or sometimes better it.

I did a bit of shopping around when we got our renewal notice (I pay annually). I couldn't get close to what we are paying for H&C with Budget. I've never had to claim anything yet but when I've rang for other things, the service has been great. We have H&C and two cars with them.

So I went and did the ring around today to a few places. Aami is the most expensive, But they are covering me for a lot more and I do know what their services are like. I did ring up Aami and he did say for me to call when my renewal time is up and we can talk discounts then... I'll suck up the extra I am paying for the security I know that everything is covered.

Aami is covering me for more on my house, and extras - that the others didn't offer.
aami is covering me for my agreed value of my care $5 grand MORE then what any of the others offered.

It's so hard to compare apples with apples when they all have such different fine print . It sounds like aami is offering you good coverage. Good luck negotiating a discount.

Exactly right! The fine print on all the insurance companies vary so much, it's so difficult to know what one company provides, compared to another!

One word of advice, stay away from companies such as REAL or you, they have a lot of "extra" conditions in their fine print that others don't have.

One way to lower your premiums, esp on car insurance is to up your excess.
I bumped mine up to $1100 (the max) and it dropped my insurance by a couple of hundred per annum.
I have only ever made 2 claims on cars in my life, one was a write off, the other was $11000 in hail damage, so I figure my odds of claiming on minor repairs are not great, and really, if I have to cough up $500, it may as well be $1000 KWIM?
