Anyone know about Goats?? *Raising a goat for meat*
OK, long story that I'm not going to get into....
But, we've found ourselves (very suddenly) with a goat. He's only about 2 days old, he still has his umbilical cord attached.
We're not getting too attached incase he dies, but he did survive the night...
We've got the right formula and stuff for him, and he's been having some bottles.
My question is, being a male goat, how old does he need to be to be slaughtered? We've decided to just eat him when he's old enough.
And how long does he have to be on bottles?

My parents used to keep goats on their farm so I'll ask them and get back to you. My mum bottle raised a couple who's mothers sucked
Being male I think it's recommended you neuter them while young or else the meat has too strong a taste by the time they're worth eating.

With the boys we sometimes used to kill at a few days old and cook like rabbit. You do need to neuter if keeping older and anyway they really stink if you don't. I can't remember ever eating a poddy though.....after bottle feeding I used to get too attached and usually found "pet" homes for them.

Thank you for asking around to help me out.
We don't want to get him fixed if we don't need to, I think it's a bit cruel considering we are going to eat him at only a few months old.
