Cat with mouth problems - any ideas?

I just noticed my cat had something funky going on with his lips, and on closer look, he appears to have lost rounded slices on both sides (one bigger than the other). Looks sore... What could it be? My partner suggested ulcers and I am hoping its not cancery. He's 10 years old.

Yes I think he should go to the vet. It could be anything from a huge array of problems from cat flu to feline leukemia, but if it turns out to be something quite painful it would be best to get it looked at earlier rather than later. Hope its nothing though.
