Teaching french in secondary school?

I'm a secondary school teacher but would like to become a French teacher. I have a Postgraduate dip Ed that allows me to teach hsie and religious education.

I've seen the language school at UNSW does that work for secondary schools? Is it ok for HECS?

My general understanding is that when you have your Dip Ed/ BEd you can teach anything at High School that you have passed at a 1st year university level.

That was the explanation given to me by a Vic teacher - not sure if that's still the case.

Usually the first year uni thing is up to yr 8 to teach; so for example I did first year uni art so could teach Yr 8 art but not higher.
