What's the best way, from your experiences, of selling jewellery?
I have some things that I want to be rid of but don't know how to sell them. I think they are definitely worth more as items than gold, itms?
One is a pair of Tiffany earrings, not sold anymore, so I think to the right buyer they'd be worth heaps. The other is a bracelet with rubies and a couple of very small diamonds.
I've tried eBay for the earrings, no joy. Called Tiffany to ask if they recommend anyone to sell, big fat NO.
I think it depends on why you're selling it, e.g. If you want to make some money to buy something else, you may be better off going somewhere like Precious Metal Exchange and selling the items at scrap price, as that way you ar guaranteed a sale. If you like the items and want them to go to the "right" home and are prepared to wait, then maybe go to some antique or retro shops and see if they are interested, but be aware that you might be waiting a long time for them to sell.
Your are best off selling *good* jewellery yourself, privately. If you sell it to a middle man, you will get rock bottom percentage of its actual value.
So go and take the pieces to a good jeweller, have them cleaned properly and appraised for their current market value, and go from there. You will never get their real value selling to a commercial enterprise.
