My poor little boy cat has been desexed today. When we got home i noticed that there is some pink soft tissue bulging out from the incision site on his scrotum....
I called the vet as he keeps licking it and they assured me that it's normal and will close over soon. I just don't see how the skin is going to close over the bulge? It's almost a centimeter apart! I'm scared he's gonna get it infected. My husband had been sanding the walls in our house and everything is covered in dust. :-( I put him into his kitten room (our main bathroom), as this is currently the only dust-free zone. Hopefully that way it stays at least sort of clean...
Someone please reassure me that all is gonna be ok! I don't know what to do. My last boy didn't have it...
Some swelling is normal but I have never seen bulging. Them licking it a little is also common but you don't want him constantly licking it. See how it goes overnight and if your still concerned ring your vet in the morning and tell them you want them to check it. Better to get on top of it before it does get worse because medicating cats is not fun.
Definitely keep an eye on it. In the morning it should look like it has improved, not stayed the same or gotten worse. If in any doubt, take him back. The cost of aftercare should be included in what you have already paid for the procedure.
He kept licking it to the point of it getting really red (it was light pink before). There was no way the swelling would go down like that... Soo I called the vet and told them that i'm coming back in to get it checked and if nothing else at least get a cone for him so he can't lick it anymore. WELL! The vet took one look at him and said that it is NOT normal (he kept muttering "mmmhh...strange....mmmhh ...STRANGE!" ) And apparantly in his 30 years as a vet he has only seen this once before. It was like a prolapse thingy, the "knot" they did to tie off the tubes/blood supply came pocking out and just wouldn't go back in! It must have happened when he was playing roughly with his teddy....
Long story short, I had to leave him there and he's having another surgery in the morning to get it stitched into place. Free of charge at least. Still nerve recking though... I'm so glad I listened to my gut feeling! So thanks again for your advice! you guys rock.
Glad you got him checked out - what a relief to know they will sort it out for you ASAP. I hope he's back home again tomorrow
PS laughing at idea of cat wearing a cone. I think my cats would claw my face off if I tried to put a cone on them!
Poor little bugger. Glad that he will be getting it fixed up. I have only ever seen what you described in a male rabbit never a cat. I hope he feels better after tomorrow. You did well following your instincts
Thanks ladies! Yeah, he didn't like it very much, especially coz it is such a GIRL cat thing boys usually shouldn't need it. But my boy is special . The vet nurse was really sweet and spoilt him with cuddles. She made me laugh when she said that he looks like a margharita glas with his cone! I think she could tell that i was worried and tried to cheer me up. They are all really nice at that clinic. She even got him a teddy for his cage, coz i forgot to bring his (didn't think they'd keep him for the night!). Sigh... Can't wait to collect him. The house is sooo empty without him!
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/11/uny2yvaq.jpgWell it's good news! I picked him up and he's home now. He only needed one stitch to fix it. he's bouncing around seems to have come out of the anaesthetic quite well. The vet said we can remove the cone, but i rather keep it on until tomorrow. We are going out tonight so i rather be safe than sorry. He clearly can't be trusted! Lol http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/11/9yzy9e5y.jpg
