Well it's a legal requirement for childcare centres....always done on a weekend when children aren't present. And of course we have crawling bubs - they do pray something around the exterior of the walls, so if you are worried, maybe ask if that's necessary.
Yes. We had a spider infestation, so we had a pest contractor come in and sprayed specifically for that. The possibility of our crawling baby being bitten by a highly venomous spider was a much greater risk than the effects of the chemical. We were careful to cover all our of baby's things prior to their visit, we stayed out of the house for much longer than the amount of time recommended, and then we did lots of washing afterwards (bedding, toys, clothes etc) as well as vaccuuming and wiping down all the household surfaces.
If this is in relation to your bedbug problem, I would just get the contractor out. They are nasty little critters and you don't want the infestation taking hold and spreading to other furniture/beds/rooms, because then it will be a bigger problem involving more rounds of chemical exposure. How did you confirm they were bedbugs? FWIW I would be trying to work out how it was that the infestation started, my understanding is that they usually arrive via luggage or furniture, so it's a good idea to work out how the infestation started so you can take preventative action there too.

Not sure how they came about but i confirmed cause i see the little buggers shedded skin stuck to some clothing that my dh found under his bed then found the same on my yarn which was stored under my bed.
I then checked around mattress and found them around there too
