Urgent! Which Mountain Buggy - older (NZ) model double or newer Duo (2011)

I need urgent advice! I was bidding on a 2011 Mountain Buggy on Thursday which is in excellent condition. I missed out by a measly $5!! Was gutted. I bought an older model Mountain Buggy today (suspect it's around 2005) for $180. I've cleaned it up and it's in great nick bar a small tear in the canvas around the frame. It's got the swivel wheels and the one sun shade for both seats and it's navy with minimal fading. It would be a New Zealand make.

I've just received an email from the owner of the 2011 model and the sale fell through so it's all mine for $250 if I want it. What to do?!

I'm sure I can sell the older one for what I paid but there seems to be a bit of concern about the newer models as they are apparently made in China now. Does anyone know if it really makes that much difference? It sounds like a good deal for a 2 year old double Buggy but should I just stick with the older model?

Argh! Why does this random stuff always happen to me?!

If the older one is fine then just stick with it. Less bother than relisting the old one and arranging pick up of the new one.

Thanks Arte, that's how I'm feeling except for the fact the newer model has deeper seats - can fit up to 5 year olds! DD1 only just fits in the older model. Stupidly I didn't take her with me to view it, I honestly thought she'd have loads of room.

    DD1 is 3.5 yrs (16kg) and DD2 is 17 months (11.5kg).

    I'm so confused!

I have heard that the older ones are much better quality. But this is coming from friends that own the older one so may have some bias

Can you arrange to go and have a look and decide then? Take your DD with you.

I have a 2009 model, made in NZ one and my girls fit in it perfectly. My DD2 will be 3 in Sept and weighs 16kgs.

I'd stick with the older one. I don't have any experience with the newer ones so can't really comment on them but my older one is so sturdy that I imagine it would be near impossible to damage it. Even with kids the age of mine, I still use it every week and its never let me down.

Thanks girls. The newer one is in Brisbane and we are in Perth but DH is on his way there now for a conference so the seller can take it to his hotel for us

I'm trying to get measurement for the seat in the new one and will double check DD1 is the one I have again to see how tight it is.

Think I just found my answer, the newer model seats are almost 10cms higher and a few cms wider too. That's huge. The review I just read they used a 3 and 5 year old to test it. I'm sold.

Now to sell the other one. Sigh. Hopefully it shouldn't be too hard (palm face for getting myself into this situation!)

I have the original one that I use for my younger kids sometimes and the deep seats suck. DD2 will not sit in it. They sort of disappear into them and her legs don't reach the bend. I wouldn't want it any deeper. A still fits in it, and I am pretty sure that W could squeeze in if he wanted.

I think they're the same depth, I meant the height of the seat is bigger - so more head room DD1's head hits the canopy on the older one. It's not a drama but I was going for another year of waking with her in it.

I have a single NZ made and a duet which is not. Love, love both. Don't feel like there's a quality difference (and I went to great lengths to get one of the last NZ ones!). Bear in mind that double walking can get very heavy as they get older - hope you've got somewhere flat to walk!
